Historia
Masterfully blending elements of psychological suspense and true crime, Jessica Knoll—bestselling author of Luckiest Girl Alive and the writer behind the Netflix adaptation starring Mila Kunis—delivers an “unflinching and evocative” (Laura Dave, New York Times bestselling author) thriller in Bright Young Women. The book opens on a Saturday night in 1978, hours before a soon-to-be-infamous murderer descends upon a Florida sorority house with deadly results. The lives of those who survive, including a sorority president and key witness, Pamela Schumacher, are forever changed.

Visceral and beautifully done
Revisado: 09-20-23
Clearly about the murders and ridiculous spectacle of a trial Ted Bundy held the country hostage with,
the book is about the victims, the collateral damage, and the challenges faced by the severely traumatized women left alive and searching for justice. The beautiful part is that the pictures that emerge are of deep female friendships formed before and after the murders, and witnessing surviving and thriving through family bs and homophobia. Sutton Foster’s narration was way too flat for me and I’m usually a fan. Other than that, this is a page turner with some really beautifully written lines.

Amazing Crossection of Women
Revisado: 06-26-23
Take care if you have experienced pregnancy loss and death but also, revel in the way the author portrays different stories of women and their paths to motherhood. What and when and how and why women become pregnant is fascinating, tragic, gorgeous and terrifying. This is a beautiful study in these feelings.

Incredibly gorgeous, funny yet unflinchingly honest
Revisado: 05-20-23
It’s poetry, it’s memoir, it’s love letter and a shitty reviewer judging her life own life choices and her work, it’s a crystal clear look into the every day micro aggressions and blatant racist garbage our country hurls into the faces, bodies and souls of asian women (especially). It’s art, it’s song, it’s Dr. Jane Wong, m-fers! Extraordinary read.

Just like her first novel, I was sucked in by the gorgeous prose, flawed but redeemable characters and the epic journey of this family and all their drama.

Historia
Fifteen-year-old equestrian prodigy Roan Montgomery has only ever known two worlds: inside the riding arena and outside of it. Both, for as long as she can remember, have been ruled by her father, who demands strict obedience in all areas of her life. The warped power dynamic of coach and rider extends far beyond the stables, and Roan's relationship with her father has long been inappropriate. She has been able to compartmentalize that dark aspect of her life, ruthlessly focusing on her ambitions as a rider heading for the Olympics, just as her father had done.

Incredible but Very Dark.
Revisado: 02-18-21
Major trigger warning for survivors of sexual trauma. But, this story, if you can stomach it, is an incredible journey of a young woman learning to take back her life and find healing in a much more elegant way than most people would have. The descriptions of the horse competition life are spot on and the characters are complex and compelling, but very real. This book will keep me up tonight.

Intriguingly epic glimpse into two different worlds
Revisado: 02-03-21
I’m not really sure how to describe this epic saga — there is so much woven together to explore the worlds of corporate greed, religion, sex and the destruction of our treasured lands like Joshua Tree. A crazy corporate retreat is the catalyst for the unravelling of polygamous Mormon family’s world. With expert plotting and characters that pop off the page, you’ll want to slow the speed of Duchovny’s narration to enjoy each well-chosen word— especially as three of the Mormon children are forced into the public school system. Dig in and enjoy.

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

Dark, dark dark but fantastic
Revisado: 01-02-20
If you are a true crime buff, this fictionalized account of the events surrounding Jacob Wetterling’s kidnapping and murder will float through your mind as you read about Cassie’s haunting tale. The writer has nailed the period with every TV, pop culture and food reference throughout the story which helps lighten the very dark subject matter. Not for those freaked out by kidnapping or triggered by references to sexual abuse. I was disturbed but could not stop listening!

Give this book to young men!
Revisado: 11-17-19
Incredible story of resilience and trauma, family and healing, growth and pain. While women everywhere will relate to Chanel as a person, and many as fellow victims, the best gift we can give to our society is to make every young man read this book. We have to do better. Brava Chanel for sharing so much of your journey as a person, good, bad and human. Growing up next door to Palo Alto, I deeply connected to you sense of home and what it means. Thank you. Thank you.

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.
