I am in awe.
I felt that this author understood some things about life that spoke to me in many ways. The way Kay captured life and how the decisions we make can affect others and at times chart our course in life was excellent.
There is more I want to say, but I know I can't explain or put into words the experience I had while reading this book. I will say buy the book or audio, and allow yourself to go on an adventure.

The narration was perfect, which made me want to continue listening to the story.
What can I say about Nettle & Bone? It's not the kind of story that I would usually listen to or read. I'm not into horror, but so many people had recommended it therefore I wanted to see what it was about. And I wasn't disappointed, it's a good story. It's engaging, intriguing and there were times I wanted to laugh, cry, and shake some sense into a few characters.
If I listen to an audiobook I want it to accomplish what this one did, and that is forget the place and time I'm in and transport me to the world where the story takes place, and Nettle’s narrator succeeded in this area.

I don't know how to feel about this story. It had all the warm fuzzy feels, and I loved Ella and Dax. But I didn't like all the angst between them. I would have liked to see them come together sooner and work through their problems as they were dating. Even though the angst between them bothers me, I still enjoyed the story and I wish the author would have written a sequel. I was hoping Lucy would have fallen in love with one of Dax's friends or brother.
The narration was great!!!

Historia
Sworn to a goddess. One with her blade. A heart yet unbroken. It would have been only one more year of training. One year in the dust and wind of the Calma Desert. But Gandrett Brayton’s fate storms in disguised as a beautiful stranger with a damning secret. As he forces her into the service of the lord who tore her from her mother’s arms ten years ago to commit her to the Order of Vala, Gandrett is left with a choice: run, or work for the man she despises and earn the chance to see her family again.

This started out slow, and it really didn’t pick up for me until Gandrett met Armand. Let’s be honest, that is when the story starts to unfold, and you get to experience that ‘edge of your seat’ feeling. It's a good story, and I will be reading the next book. Oh, I forgot to mention the narration. I didn't care for this narrator. I felt the story deserved dual narration - but that is just my opinion.

As I read this book, I found myself getting angry. However, I realized that the reason behind my anger was because I wanted more romance between Gandrett and Nehelon. Nonetheless, I understand that the author is building a world and needed to lay the pieces to pull the reader in.
Moreover, I was annoyed with the characters Addie, Joshua, and Armand. But, just because I felt angry doesn't mean it was a bad story. It was actually an excellent one! I just didn't like seeing the characters I love suffer so many losses. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

Rin is an immortal kitsune, or at least she was until a witch’s curse turned her human. To regain her yokai powers and avoid being turned into a fox, she must make the lord’s son fall in love with her before the next full moon. Her kind has been seducing humans for centuries, and it should be easy, as long as he doesn’t find out she’s a kitsune…except the curse also took her voice.

This was a very good audiobook. I love the narration. As I have said before, and will continue to say, a narrator should enhance the story. They should make you see and experience things that you may have missed while reading the book. Well, this narrator did all of that and more. I also loved that it was centered around Japanese culture.

Christmas
Revisado: 07-14-21
I love this story. The Christmas Courtesan was a wonderful getaway from the real word; it was engaging, intriguing, and emotional. Normally, I would gush over the female character but Roger Thornton was great. He is what I would call a beta male and I love how Ms. Vale wrote his story. The narrator help us feel his sadness and longing for more in life but feeling he couldn't obtain it because of an impediment. Even though it was a novella, the author was able to create nuances with each character and flesh them out without me as a reader feeling like she left something out of the story or feeling like she rushed it. Great story, great narration. I'm ready for book 2.

Black
Revisado: 06-24-21
My head is spinning after reading Black. I saw many other stories that could be developed with other characters; yes, I know it's weird that I would mention that in a review before talking about the main characters. But Camille needs a story of her own, and Amber needs a story too, but not with Charles. I wonder what would happen if Amber fell in love with a black person that was free?
Anyway, I needed to get that out before I start talking about the main characters. Ok, let me say this story was hard for me to get into in the beginning; I struggled, really struggled. It wasn't until I was several chapters in that I knew it would be a good story, and even at that point I didn't feel like there was this great chemistry between Black and Sunday. As I said previously, the story is good, the narration was perfection... but something was lacking.
I'm a reader, and if I'm deciding to finish a story or move on to another before the one I'm reading or listening to is over then that is a problem. Black was that story where I would say "Do I want to continue reading or move on to another book?" I chose to continue reading, because there is a point in the book where you want and need to know the outcome of things.
Why am I giving it 4 stars? It's not necessarily the story itself, but the narration that has garnered 4 stars. The narration was superb, the narrator made me feel the emotions of the characters. I felt Sunday's jealousy, even though it was misplaced. I felt Mama's anguish and brokenness over Jacob. I felt Jacob's pain for not being a better man on so many levels. I felt Elbert waking up to the possibility that there is more to life than pain. I felt Black expressing himself through his paintings.

Falling for an enemy is taboo. Falling for a guy who stands for everything you and three generations before you have fought against? Unthinkable. But the day Gunner Cox saved me from a fire was the day my heart no longer belonged to me. It belongs to the damaged and broken boy being dragged down by a monster who shares his DNA.

Revisado: 10-16-20
I really can't put into words how wonderful the audiobook is. I have said this before and will say it again: A good narration enhances a story. It will bring to light some of the things you may have missed when you read the story. I felt Gunner's pain, his loneliness and his need to connect to something better than what he experienced. I know some readers may think this is far fetched, but I do believe there are some kids who know when things aren't right in their families and try to protect themselves from becoming anything like the people in their environment.
Kids like Gunner may take advanced classes in school, get involved in afterschool activities, or try to connect with people who they know are concerned about them. They unknowingly trying to break the cycle they're in. Sometimes it works and sometimes the pain is too deep to break the cycle. This story reminds of The Best of Enemies, except Conversion has the romantic element and the other doesn't. Anyway, I like that Gunner and Tiana develop a friendship first and discuss things that are tough and painful. The narrators allowed me to be able to relate to both of characters and what they were going through.
This was a beautiful experience and I hope the author will consider doing a story with Tiana's friend and Ranger. I know he's older than her, but I would love to read an age-gap romance with a guy who is truly trying to fight his demons from the past, and I don't think Lucy would allow him to get away with anything. She would make him work to show he wanted to be with her.

Think you could craft the perfect bargain? Allie Hunter thought all she had to do was make an exchange to buy back her father's life. She was wrong. Mortals are so often wrong about the Faewald. Usually, that kills them, or mires them in bargains that will suck their life out sip by sip. With Allie caught in a cage and the Fae she had once tormented her new captor, can she strike the right bargain to save everything she loves?

Fae Captive
Revisado: 06-22-20
One thing I love about this series is that the fae are not like they are portrayed in other books. They are wicked, vicious, and their appearance can be deceiving. Because of those things, I didn't think I would enjoy this story. I also didn't think I would love it because I love books that have some romance in them. Well, there is a little romance in this book, too — it's just twisted and full of trickery, if you call that romance. Perhaps it is something more akin to "romantic horror." I love the shenanigans that go on in this story, as well as the twists and turns, all of which make this an exciting read.
The narration was merely decent; I wasn't terribly impressed. I think audiobook narrations should enhance the story, and the reader should feel like they are a part of it. Did this narration detract from the unique story? No! The author's excellent writing makes me want to read and listen to the other books in the series.
