Narration distracting
Revisado: 07-24-19
This narrator did NOT help the story at all. It is difficult to understand when one sentence ends and another begins. Similarly, there is about the same transition between words in the same sentence, one sentence to another, and even one scene to another. Frequently, I couldn't tell if I had inadvertently skipped several seconds of listening time as I would find myself in another scene, even days later in the story line. This makes the book feel disjointed. The story line was already blah so the narration (maybe the directing of the narration?) did nothing to help.

Historia
Years before Trip Wiley could be seen on movie screens all over the world, he could be seen sitting in the desk behind me in my high school English class. This was back in 1990, and I cite the year only to avoid dumbfounding you when references to big hair or stretch pants are mentioned. Although, come to think of it, I am from New Jersey, which may serve as explanation enough. We were teenagers then, way back in a time before anyone, himself included, could even dream he'd turn into the Hollywood commodity that he is today.

Narrator was great. Made the story in fact... Good enough story but entirely about teenage love.

Historia
As a girl, Genevieve Martin spent the happiest summer of her life in Paris, learning the delicate art of locksmithing at her uncle's side. But since then, living back in the States, she has become more private, more subdued. She has been an observer of life rather than an active participant, holding herself back from those around her, including her soon-to-be ex-husband. Paris never really left Genevieve, and, as her marriage crumbles, she finds herself faced with an incredible opportunity.

Francophiles beware...
Revisado: 10-27-17
If you're a French speaker, the narrator's butchery of the language will grate on you, but it doesn't overwhelm like in some other narrated stories (because there aren't as many French words!). Enjoyable read without but nothing remarkable.

Historia
Katie Chandler had always heard that New York is a weird and wonderful place, but this small-town Texas gal had no idea how weird until she moved there. Everywhere she goes, she sees something worth gawking at and Katie is afraid she's a little too normal to make a splash in the big city. Working for an ogre of a boss doesn't help. Then, seemingly out of the blue, Katie gets a job offer from Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc., a company that tricks of the trade to the magic community. For MSI, Katie's ordinariness is an asset.

Slightly annoying characters
Revisado: 05-19-17
These characters just aren't that believable. They are both annoying, whiney, and too perfect all at the same time. Everyone gets along while simultaneously being catty, and no one has the sense to tell either the main protagonist (who is way too bossy) or her best friend (who is way too up in her business) that no one would think that they're over the top, and in fact everyone is jist so happy to tell them how great it all is, despite the total dysfunction in it all.
The narrator doesn't help much. I just didn't enjoy listenjng, whether because of the minor things, like pronouncing "autopsy" as "all-topsy" or the more major. The major annoyance was that she read everything as if every sentence was ended with an exclamation point. Also, half the men had horrible nasal voices (though I did appreciate her attempt to distinguish the various voices).
The story was passable (if not slightly predictable) and the love interests pretty much fawn all over each other throughout. Even someone like me, who can suspend reality for a bit, was rolling my eyes. So, be forewarned.

Historia
Nola Leary would have been content to stay in Kilcairy, Ireland, healing villagers at her family’s clinic with a mix of magic and modern medicine. But a series of ill-timed omens and a deathbed promise to her grandmother have sent her on a quest to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky, to secure her family’s magical potency for the next generation. Her supernatural task? To unearth four artifacts hidden by her grandfather before a rival magical family beats her to it. Complication One: The artifacts are lost somewhere in vampire Jane Jameson’s occult bookshop. Complication Two: Her new neighbor, Jed Trudeau, keeps turning up half-naked at the strangest times....

Love Amanda Ronconi, Hated Accent
Revisado: 02-18-17
Good story on par with other Molly Harper Half Moon Hollow stories. However, the accent of the narrator was distracting. I absolutely love Ronconi's narration (that's how I found this series), and she always does a great job. So I know it's not her but the director who told her to use such a weird accent (it sounded like a poor imitation of someone trying to speak half-Irish and half-Bostonian). Yes the character has both elements but it even says that she's supposed to have a SLIGHT lilt/Boston accent. After a while it eased, but it did take quite some time.

Most folks associate the city of Salem, Massachusetts, with witches, but for Lee Barrett it's home. This October she's returned to her hometown - where her beloved Aunt Ibby still lives - to interview for a job as a reporter at WICH-TV. But the only opening is for a call-in psychic to host the late-night horror movies. It seems the previous host, Ariel Constellation, never saw her own murder coming.

Narration sometimes odd
Revisado: 04-27-15
I obviously love this story, but I found there were times that the narrator (who is generally good) reads sentences so that it was a little boring -- when the narration wasn't a character speaking, there were times (but certainly not the bulk of the reading) that it sounded rote without much thought or feeling for what was being said. It got a little distracting, but wasn't as critical since I am well acquainted with the story. The variation of character voices is good, but the
