Oh my I cannot recommend this book highly enough!! Do yourselves a favor and put everything else on your TBR shelf aside and break those piggy banks open and either click on the link to purchase this fantastic audiobook now or like the gingerbread man run run as fast as you can to your nearest bookstore and get yourself a physical copy of Stephen King’s - You Like It Darker. I guarantee you will not regret it!

The stories are deeply satisfying. Intense and exciting they will keep you on the edge of your seat turning pages long into the night. I listened to the audiobook and more than once I would arrive home only to sit in my car an extra 10 or 15 minutes because I just couldn’t stop myself until I knew how that particular segment was going to pan out. I’d offer to do dishes on nights that weren’t mine just so I could have some time to myself to put my headphones on and listen to this book. Lol, believe me when I say, that’s a first.

My absolute favorite stories in this collection are, Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream, Rattlesnakes, (which is connected to Cujo) and The Answer Man. Each more like a novella and coincidentally each mentioned at the end in an authors note worth listening too.

5 out of 5 stars!!
Hooray for You Like It Darker!!

The Boyfriend by DE McCluskey

Never have I emphasized with a character as much as I have with the young female victim in this book.

The Boyfriend is my first DE McCluskey novel and honestly I am floored by how good of a writer is. I really don’t know how to describe the myriad of emotions that played through me through the 80 chapters that constitute this rather intense story of debauchery and revenge. But I can say this… I have felt each emotion the author has intended with raw, real, edge of my seat anticipation for the next chapter to come. From the rooftops I highly recommended this author!!

And as a mother of three beautiful daughters I have to admit that, DE McCluskey’s The Boyfriend is one of the scariest books I have ever read! New fear level unlocked. 5⭐️

I’m more of a horror book enthusiast than a thriller fan and this is my first Rollin’s book bought on sale for its scary title. Lol

Even though I prefer horror to thrillers I do read them and I have to say that this one is pretty damn good! I love the premise of the story!! There’s not much I can share without spoilers so I’ll leave it at when ‘nature attacks’ who do you call? Why you call your best special ops ‘Sigma Team’ of course.

The story arcs are awesome and the real science behind the story is interesting and amazing. It’s freaky to think about something like what happens in this book really happening! Freaky and frightening! In fact, new fear unlocked.

My only issue was the nonstop action and pacing and that’s not always a good thing for an audiobook. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to stop and rewind. 😖 I’m thinking I probably would have had better comprehension with a hand held book.

The Forever by Craig Robertson

Is by far the best science fiction I have ever had the pleasure of reading! Or in this case listening to, bar none! Usually my go to genre of choice is horror, but I’ve been known to crossover into the starry depths of the unknown from time to time. Looking for answers as to what lies beyond the horizons of our boundaries. Is there life outside of what we know to exist? Are there other people like us, or are there monsters?

Not all sci-fi books are stuck heavily on the science end of it. I like the kind that have just enough science to get you off of this rock and far enough into space where we can adventure to other worlds and find those answers. Where we can begin those crazy scary new adventures easily enough. Understanding that warp drive and dilithium crystals work together to bend the time space continuum to warp the space around us so that our trip will only take 5 years instead of 500 years. Naming people, places, and things something we can actually pronounce unlike some of those hardcore sci-fi/fantasy books with names that have more consonants than vowels leaving you staring at the book for minutes on end trying to figure out how to pronounce the entity’s name until you throw the darn thing across the room in frustration. Craig Robertson doesn’t do this to us. He knows how to write such adventures. And oh my goodness does he do it with flair and style and a large amount of comic relief. Did I mention this book is hilarious as well as exciting? 😂

You’ll be able to get a wonderful synopsis and book description simply by looking this title up at Amazon or Audible. I found out about this amazing book through Audible Originals. I’d downloaded it when it was free and promptly forgot it. It wasn’t until last week that I’d noticed an expiration date highlighted in red under the title, (when I was conveniently searching for a new book) oops! So I had a week to start and finish a 17 hr book and I did it! It was easy to do because I was that enthralled with it! I finished today. I recommend audio, the story is awesome and the narrator is pitch perfect!!

Imagine a rogue planet the size of Jupiter speeding through our solar system with no abandon. On a reckless coarse through our galaxy it will enter our solar system and come close enough to our own planet Jupiter to throw the planet out of its orbit around the sun sending Jupiter flying off like a billiard ball toward Earth.

Humanity has 97 years left.

Puzzle House is a Matryoshka house of puzzles!

Duncan Ralston’s Puzzle House reminds me of a crossover between the infamous Saw movies and what is probably a lesser known, but in my opinion, smarter, scarier, and underrated film called, The Cube, with a little bit of Tomb Raider and Egyptian History mixed in for flavoring.

It’s smart, really smart! The man did his research for this novel and it shows. The story never allows you to forget that it is in fact an intricately twisted, torturous, and convoluted puzzle. A puzzle of pain, both physical and mental.

And though the book presents us with an evil dungeon master, or puzzle master as the case may be… don’t lose sight that the real puzzle master here is one crafty author, Mr. Duncan Ralston. With skill and finesse he has woven together one heck of a tale and built one hell of a puzzle, after puzzle, after puzzle, in a puzzle, after puzzle.

Never lose sight of that! You can solve the final puzzle if you keep a good watch!

I wasn’t watching and boy was I surprised! 😮 Wow, what a book!!

I didn’t care much for this book at all. I really wanted to love it. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Steve Stred so I was really excited when I found the audio on an Audible discounted sale. I wasn’t that far in when I knew beyond doubt that I wasn’t going to like it. I looked to see if this title could be returned since it was purchased with cash and not with token, but it doesn’t appear that it can be, so I had a choice to make… finish or dnf?

I paid cash for this… DARN RIGHT I’m going to finish!!

Unfortunately for me it did not get better and I think I know why; It’s not the story that I took issue with, but rather the narration. For me it simply wasn’t engaging. It just seemed too lackadaisical. Lacking anything close to emotion. The narrators tone was tired and lazy. Not even trying to kick it up and change it when speaking to multiple characters. I was often confused and bored. Finding myself totally zoned out I was more than once having to go back and re-listen.

Perhaps it would have been a better experience for me if I’d read the physical media myself. But as of this moment in time I have too much on my shelves to consider giving him a second go around. Maybe at some point in the future. 3 ⭐️ for story bc I love a good cryptid and there are some awesome hybrids going on in here. But in this reader’s opinion the story could use some polishing and the audio needs a redo.

Ever see the 1974 horror movie It’s Alive? Well strangely that’s what this story reminds me of only 99 kinds of ways better and 100% jacked up on steroids! This is story moves fast and furious and you won’t be unhappy with its ending.

Hubby and I listened to this on a longish commute and we both enjoyed it. The character development is good and believable. Mary’s imagination is a hoot. I enjoyed the way she’d go off on side tanget reviews. I found that quite hilarious. A tad confused with the ending there. I know the story was intended to be a short, but I would have thought that Mary and Fiona’s friendship was at least worthy of an attempt at making things right between them.

The Hunt For Lazarus Continues

Death’s Cathedral follows Shane Ryan’s exploits from Duel of the Damned right where it left off. The plot unfolds easily, swiftly, and never lets the readers attention wonder. The story is intense, fast paced, and doesn’t let up. As is the norm for these authors the characters are well written and strong. This story introduces a new character for us in the form of a quirky, friendly, and to Shane’s chagrin annoyingly helpful ghost named John who has the ability to see residual traces of Lazarus which is just the aid that Shane needs in his quest for answers. Great story! I have recommended Ron Ripley for his ghost stories and I will continue to recommend him and his team of writers at Scare Street for their superb storytelling skills. Thank you guys for the many hours of entertainment you have given to me.

I loved Ron Ripley and Ian Fortey’s, Duel of the Damned! The story is simply fantastic! Together Ripley and Fortey weave a tale with all the imagery one has come to expect of the often cynical, always charming, Shane Ryan of Berkley Street fame. They have built a cast of great characters and a well written story that makes for a 5-star review so full of action and suspense that I couldn't stop listening. Every free moment was spent lost in the tale of how Shane Ryan had to once again pull his fat out of the supernatural fryer so to speak, and prove his worth whether he wanted to or not.

This time finds Shane really not wanting any of it! But he finds he has little to no choice. Shane has been invited to a very special, one of a kind event, called The Iron Tournament where living fighters are pitted against bound spirits in a savage fight to the death. The winner of course gets to live on to fight another battle. And so on the tournament progresses until the last man or ghost is standing.

It was an absolutely amazing story! Certainly one of my favorites, not soon to be forgotten. And one that I would happily recommend for some good light hearted entertainment.
