Good story and narration
Revisado: 03-16-23
Cute story with excellent narration
I have a few gripes
The Canadian English is not believable in coastal Oregon
Drinks Menu is Canadian
Drink Menu is American
Several other similar
Trakkies is Canadian
Sweats is American
Also, women who write gay romance always get this wrong
Boxer Briefs are not Boxers
Boxers are tall thin and baggy with woven cotton
Boxer briefs are more fitting knit cotton and snug
Many gay men sexualize underwear so make your choice and stick to it. Quinn would probably like the softness of his bfs boxer briefs to Cum on more than the pillow....
Consistent details make a story more believable

Tough listen
Revisado: 03-11-23
The story was slow to develop
I have no issues with subject matter as i am in the bdsm community
I thought both narrators had issues Just inconsistent
Maine fisherman? Brooklyn Italian?
Some really stereotypical diolgue
So delitioussssss!!!!
So fabulouthhhhhh! No
Not in the gay leather community
You can hear the wrists flopping
This is the problem with mostly women writing gay sex romance
Two authors to suggest

Historia
Mason Hanks has returned to Rainbow Cove, Oregon with one goal in mind: turn the struggling coastal community into a thriving LGBTQ tourism destination. Step one is transforming an old bar and grill into a gay-friendly eatery. Step two? Don't piss off Nash Flint, the very hot, very stern chief of police who's not so sure he's on board with Mason's big plans. Nash Flint just wants to keep his community safe and enjoy the occasional burger in peace. He's not big on change nor is he a fan of Mason's troublemaking family, especially his rowdy older brothers.

Got better
Revisado: 03-11-23
The story potential was good but took a while to ramp up, but when it did about half way through it Grabbed my interest.
Good character development
I was amused to see the author self described as a grammar nazi, then see grammatical errors all through the book... mostly adjectives used as adverbs. Ok in a less educated caracter it may be more accurate... but
One glaring narration problem
If you went to a culinary school and pronounced chiffonade like lemonade they would laugh you out of the room
Shee foh nod uh
All that griping aside, a good book that accelerated as it went on
Nash was the reincarnation of my uncle

Best I've read. Huge love story. Like most of these, the sex scenes are generic. That said the story was amazing. Again, every gay man does not wear boxer shorts... please... details... ok I'm a retired chief...
I still have this feeling that the author is writing under many names. The language The use of Canadian English I e NOBoDY in CA calls it Cali!!!! That's like Ne Vaaah daaa. The intimate knowledge of USN. Anyway
The style is great. The story lines compelling. As an E8 casualty of DADT all these books speak to my heart.

Great story and fantastic narration by Greg Boudreaux as always. I can't wait to hear the rest of this series.
I still think this has to be a pen name for L A Witt. The writing style and USN knowledge are way too similar.

Great story
Revisado: 07-16-22
As a USN Chief that came out at age 22 there was so much to relate to in this story .
The characters were believable and they developed logically.
The one thing i always find about female authors of gay romance is that the balance of story and sex is always heavy on the sex side. This was better than most.
The only reason i gave the narration a 4 was that it was extremely hard to tell whether the narrator was reading from the perspective of one of the two main characters or as the narrator, especially in the beginning. I had to replay the first 3 chapters a few times to understand the set up
I also found many grammatical errors. If a character is a college professor, he knows the difference between safe and safely or good and well
That said, Overall, it was a good engaging story and a lot of content that was relevant to today.

What's the first rule of running a gym by and for combat vets? Enjoy the scorching hot scenery, but get your kicks somewhere else. Never mind that my cousin-slash-business partner ignores that rule every chance he gets. I don't ignore it. Ever. And frankly, between Grindr, and living in one of the gayest cities in America, it's not exactly a hardship. That is, until a pair of blue eyes, swimming with vulnerability, shows up at my door, looking for a job. He's too skinny, too mouthy, and way too young for the likes of me, but he pings that protector instinct in me - hard.

Good performances, but the story was a bit rigid
Revisado: 07-14-22
I think John Solo did a great job with the narration - so many characters done to perfection.
The overall story has great themes but has a few issues.
The first part goes on a bit, then there is a way too short character transition, then it's pages and pages and pages of sex
The changes from beginning to end seem unrealistic because they change too much too fast
I would say, ditch half the sex scenes, and expand the middle of the story so the character development has more flow.
Just my 2 C/s

I loved laughing though this book. The character diversity was great on so many fronts, and it had a good balance of story and sex
Greg is always good, but I found Joel much more believable in this book than in Sink or Swim
,My ONE HUGE ISSUE - the guy on the book cover/thumbnail has his cover on crooked ARRRRRGH!!!!
He'd be laughed off of any Naval base.

Entertaining, but....
Revisado: 07-14-22
These books are entertaining but several things bother me.
The language and process in the stories sounds EXACTLY like L A Witt, with the same quirky non-Amercian English.
I don't care where people come from, but if you're writing a book set in the US, British or perhaps Canadian expressions sound unnatural coming out of an American characters mouth. A few examples:
The Drinks Menu - US we would say Drink Menu
In queue = standing in line
Trackies = Sweat Pants or sweats
Drive = Driveway
The Rear View - needs mirror
There are several others that catch my ear as wrong, but I'm not remembering them at the moment.
You can always tell when women are writing gay romance, and they seem to be writing it for a female audience.
The characters seem like female persona in male bodies. They instantly fall in love and are almost always monogamous from day one. (those are called Lesbians...LOL) The other thing, and yes I'm generalizing... once the sex scenes start, they go on for pages and pages and pages and most are extremely vanilla. Daryl Banner & Alexa Land weave and balance the sex and story in a way that makes sense than most. Too many authors write the the NO NO NO NO then SEX SEX SEX style. I wear my right finger out pushing the 15 seconds ahead button LOL. Sometimes less is more.
Oh and...if I asked my husband to put his "length" into my "opening", he'd either laugh hysterically and fall off the bed, or throw up all over me. NO gay man talks like that - yah.. it's not a "member" either...
And please... if you read most gay romance written by women, EVERY gay man wears "boxers" Maybe in 1950. Just for fun I went through my contact list of my gay friends that I see at the gym and/or have known for a while, and from my military days... boxers are clearly at the bottom of the list of what underwear they wear. I only know 2 gay friends out of 30 that wear "boxers" ...one is 75 and the other is Brazilian. Ok this is nit picking, but if you want a piece of fiction to be really enjoyable, the little details have to be right, otherwise the reader doesn't relate... Accents, vocabulary. psyche, clothing, etc...
The devil is in the details as they say.
All that said, Greg Boudreaux is always a good narrator, and usually nails the characters. I liked his narration especially in this book. I thought Joel Leslie read in a way that depicted more of a 60 year old fussy queen, his character sounded 20 years older than the other....Not sure if that was writing or performance.
The first book in this series was really fun, and I thought the character contrast was really good on all fronts.

I'm not really good at making friends. That's simply a fact. I'm happy enough if I can just get through the school day, avoid eye contact with anything that breathes, and make it home where my family can continue ignoring my existence and I can play video games in peace. But then he crashes into my life like a tidal wave. The hot new senior at Spruce High. The bad boy everyone can't stop talking about.
