Ella Fields was supposed to serve 14 long years, but thanks to a combination of good behavior on her part and prison over-crowding, she was now free after just five years. Well, not quite free, thanks to parole. If she behaved herself—if she was a model citizen—she would go from being a supervised parolee to a mostly unsupervised one and might eventually be able to live a normal life. A life that might not even be worth living, because she was completely broke and the only skills she had were the ones that had landed her in prison.

Lawson is my favorite author and the DeMarco series never disappoints. I anxiously await each new book and I especially liked the Rosario Beach series of novels also with the female protagonist Kay Hamilton, if I recall correctly. As I said I love his writing style and I have read all of his other books also. This was a novella so my only complaint was that it was too short. The always excellent reader, Joe Barrett, only amplifies the book. I have pre-ordered Untouchable and eagerly await its unveiling next month. I’m always trying to find writers with a similar style to Mike Lawson, but he’s top of my list.

Half the time I couldn’t follow the storyline which was a bit convoluted.

Didn’t care for the authors style. Wouldn’t buy this person’s book again. Waste of time and not the least bit intriguing. I did like the reader however. She just needs better material.
