Historia
China thought it would be a quick war, an easy war. But now, years later, as the insurgency on the streets of Los Angeles escalates but the propaganda never changes, a Chinese officer can’t keep silent any longer. Torn between loyalty to his country and loyalty to his troops, he writes a brutally honest—and possibly suicidal—letter home to unmask the truth. Brooks combines his signature meticulous research with unforgettable characters in this landmark work of speculative fiction.

I hate you for not giving us more of this faster! Like a pusher you sucked me into your brilliance with World War Z, which by the way, I listen to annually like a pilgrim going to Zombie Mecca. And now you give us only an hour or so of more absolute, stunning, narrative brilliance!?!
. . . you really ought to be ashamed of yourself, talented sir!

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Historia
Terrorists-for-hire have created a weapon that can induce earthquakes and cause dormant volcanoes to erupt. One terrifying side effect of the weapon is that prior to the devastation, the vibrations drive ordinary people to suicide and violence. A wave of madness begins sweeping the country beginning with a mass shooting in Congress. Joe Ledger and his team go on a wild hunt to stop the terrorists and uncover the global superpower secretly funding them. At every step the stakes increase as it becomes clear that the endgame of this campaign of terror is igniting the Yellowstone caldera.

Solid book; consistently solid series!
Revisado: 11-15-18
This man can write! Ledger is the 21st century James Bond. Mayberry’s characters and scenarios are so much more creative then the typical Clancy spy stuff. What’s really brilliant is he absolutely nails the present political situation!

Abusive husbands, child molesters, and other lowlifes wound up looking like they'd been mauled by a dog...or a wolf. Now Sam's a low-rent PI in Philadelphia. He takes the kinds of cases no one wants. His clients are usually on the fringes of society. The kind who are prey for all manner of predators - human and otherwise.

Well played Mayberry!
Revisado: 01-22-18
I have read most of J. Mayberry’s stuff, but this short piece put him over the top! The noir detective character development combined with elements of fantasy and emotional sensitivity nailed it for me. For instance, in the first story, I kind of knew from the collection’s description what would happen, but Mayberry’s tense prose and setup still made me want to wait for it with anticipation.
Well played Mayberry! I’d gladly spend an hour over coffee picking your brain about the craft!

Really, this is a horror story for grown-ups.
Revisado: 12-07-14
Any additional comments?
Ok, listen: King has grown up and grey with the wisdom of the world and of writing. His earlier works, though masterful, were as sticky, giggly, and bubbling with youthful energy as he was . . . but now he has grown old, and if you have not matured with him, you probably won't like or get this novel. If you have, then this latest work of his will indeed knock your knickers off!

Wow!
Revisado: 06-15-14
If you could sum up Omega Days in three words, what would they be?
Original, engrossing, and a deep gulp of dark beer in zombie fiction, an area of writing that's often flowing over with over-sweetened Kool aid.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Father Xavier
Which scene was your favorite?
Can't say without spoilers!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Father Xavier and Alden
Any additional comments?
I hope that this authors writes more Zombie fiction and fast, and I hope that he starts a revolution of originality and depth within this genre!
