If you’re curious about our country’s many inequalities, this is a great summary of how we arrived at our current predicament. This is a semester’s worth of intro into Black American history packaged in 19 hours of riveting storytelling. It is a story for all Americans to hear because the legacy of these policies truly affect all of us today, regardless of your origin or ethnicity.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of how the American racial caste system has been constructed and how it manifests in today’s America.

I can see why this is one of the best books ever written about Nazi Germany. The absolute madness of naziism is documented with such detail that you would think you were listening to fiction. This book reminds us that a relatively small group of evil people can take over a nation and lead it, and the world,
into unspeakable horrors.

I loved hearing this book in Mrs. Obama’s voice. Very engaging and probably one I will buy a hard copy of for my collection.

This was a great review of how slavery built American capitalism. Living in the South, I routinely hear the revisionist’s explanation for the Civil War. This book methodically tears that argument down with a detailed account of slavery’s grand bargain between southern planter elites and northern industrial captains.
