Moving and compassionate return to Romania
Revisado: 09-06-17
Moving and compassionate description of the Romanian genius of "institutionalizing chaos" after the 1989 fall of communism. A gentle but uncompromising reminder of what normality is. Should be read or listened to by any Romanian.

And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.

If you could sum up The Skeptic's Guide to American History in three words, what would they be?
It is not a debunking, not even a re-writing of the US history. It's just history-how it should be written.
What did you like best about this story?
The fact that each detail is put in the context of its time.

A thorough understanding of Conservatism's lineage, principles, and impact on history is essential to making sense of the 21st-century political dialogue-a dialogue that consumes the television you watch, the newspapers you read, and the radio you listen to.No matter where you place yourself on the ideological spectrum, these 36 lectures will intrigue you, engage you, and maybe even provoke you to think about this political philosophy in an entirely new way.

Beautiful to follow until (almost) the very end.
Revisado: 01-30-17
What made the experience of listening to Plato, Socrates, and the Dialogues the most enjoyable?
Professor Sugrue is a Plato enthusiast and his enthusiasm carries you away. Throughout the lectures he made me feel like listening to/conversing with a friend.
What did you like best about this story?
The exploration of specific dialogues.
What about Professor Michael Sugrue’s performance did you like?
His tempo and his enthusiasm.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Poetry saves Philosophy.

Did not care for the last couple of lectures, the ones trying to bring home Plato's philosophy. They seemed uncritical and closed.

Plato's Phaedrus

Historia
Phaedrus lures Socrates outside the walls of Athens, where he seldom goes, by promising to share a new work by his friend and mentor, Lysias, a famous writer of speeches. This dialogue provides a powerful example of the dialectical writing that Plato uses to manifest ideas that are essential to human existence and to living a good life. Phaedrus shows how oral and written forms of language relate to each other and to philosophy.

Plato's probably mots poetical dialogue.
Revisado: 01-30-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Super dialogue with an unforgettable vision of the soul.
What other book might you compare Plato's Phaedrus to and why?
The other two dialogues dedicated to love.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I (mostly) enjoyed Ray Charles-he brings a wry humor/irony to the role. The one who payed Phaedrus was not credible.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Socrates' second speech.

Historia
Considered one of the greatest, and most influential, writers of the 20th century, Marcel Proust was also one of its most fascinating figures. A strange, reclusive genius who often lay in bed for days at a time obsessively rewriting his masterpiece, Remembrance of Things Past, Proust was at other times a tireless socialite, attending the grandest parties and dazzling guests with his vivacity and wit.

Good bio, so-and-so reading
Revisado: 01-30-17
Would you listen to Marcel Proust again? Why?
Absolutely.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Marcel Proust?
The bio is a wonderful mix of biographical details and well picked quotes from his works.
What didn’t you like about David Case’s performance?
I didn't like it. He has a pretentious tone, especially at the end of the sentence, which makes his reading slightly annoying and monotonous, thus diminishing the richness of the text.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It deserves a slower read.
