A solid adventure
Revisado: 02-12-09
Having loved the Chronicles and Legends Series, I loved revisiting the characters again in this series. While I generally liked the narrator, I hated how she did the voice of Tasslehoff. But, I still had fun with the book, and that's what this kind of book is all about.

Not particularly good
Revisado: 03-08-08
Even buying into the supernatural aspects of the story, it is still pretty illogical. There is some entertainment value to the story, but there are better books out there. Also, there is some occassional foul language that bothered me, and may bother others.
Unless you really want to read a mediocre Stephen King imitation, I'd recommend you move on to something else.

Book for Christian Growth
Revisado: 12-23-05
I began listening expecting a book that provides a defense for Christianity, which is what I had been told. While it does do that, I was shocked to discover the amount of information about what it means to grow as a Christian. The writing style is very logical, and you can hear the influence of ancient Greek philosophers in his analytical style. While thick and a little dry, the treasure is worth the dig. Also, the narrator does a fine job and is a good fit for the book.

In this remarkable book, Sandra Day O’Connor explores the law, her life as a Supreme Court Justice, and how the Court has evolved and continues to function, grow, and change as an American institution. Tracing some of the origins of American law through history, people, ideas, and landmark cases, O’Connor sheds new light on the basics, exploring through personal observation the evolution of the Court and American democratic traditions.

Informative and well-written
Revisado: 07-11-05
As someone interested in the law (I'm starting law school this fall), I was fascinated by Justice O'Connor's book. She gives her views on judicial interpretation, areas she thinks our justice system can be improved, her personal experience and views on sufferage and women's rights, all mixed in with a solid look at legal history in the U.S.
As a Supreme Court Justice and former Senator, she's obviously earned expert status whether or not you agree with her disposition or not.
I particularly liked her criticisms of the jury system, along with her ideas on what can be done about it. The only weakness of the book is that she is occassionaly repetetive. But overall a great book that is well narrarated.

Historia
This series of popular essays outlined the intellectual and moral cornerstones of the American Revolution. They were published during 1787 and 1788 in various New York State newspapers, generating extensive support for the independence movement and ultimately persuading voters to ratify the proposed constitution. Written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, among the most powerful and influential men of the day, the essays were all signed "Publius" and the actual authors of some remain under dispute.

Classic writing, horrible narrator
Revisado: 07-06-05
Wow, just to back up the other reviewer, this narrarator is the worst. It sounds like some fake, computerized reading of text. But the Federalist Papers are great in understanding the Constitution and its purposes.

Historia
The Supreme Court endorses terrorists' rights, flag burning, and importing foreign law. Is that in the Constitution? You're right: it's not. But these days the Constitution is no restraint on our out-of-control Supreme Court. The Court imperiously strikes down laws and imposes new ones purely on its own arbitrary whims. Even though liberals like John Kerry are repeatedly defeated at the polls, the majority on the allegedly "conservative" Supreme Court reflects their views and wields absolute power.

A concise account of an originalist viewpoint
Revisado: 07-06-05
First off, Levin is Rush Limbaugh's lawyer, so know what you're getting before you buy.
Beyond that, I think he does a good job defending his viewpoint that the originalist take on the Constitution is the proper one. If one looks at why Justice Ginsberg and Justice Thomas are almost always on opposite side of issues, this book does a good job of defining why Thomas takes the side he takes, and no consideration is made to defend Ginsberg.
Because Levin has such a problem with those who subscribe to the Living Constitution arguement, don't expect a defense of that at all.
Overall, I think it is good for what it is. Read it like you would a long editorial in a newspaper.
If you look at the law conservatively, this book my help you understand the legal defense of that view. If you are more liberal, this may at least help you understand why the other side sees things so differently.

It should be good, but...
Revisado: 04-16-05
I have a lot of respect for the NY Times, but poor editing and mediocre narrating drag this service down. You might as well watch CNN Headline News for all the depth you get out of this version of the Times.
The NY Times is better than this. If the WSJ can get in-depth stories in their Audible version, so should the NY Times. If you read both the NY Times and Wall Street Journal, get the Audible WSJ and read the print version of the NY Times.

Great and thought provoking
Revisado: 09-21-04
I loved this book, even as a Christian who at the core disagreed with the total premise and would argue many of the historical facts. But even with that, The premise was very entertaining, controversial, and kept me glued to the story. The narrator was great, also, doing the voices very good.

A fun, imaginative jaunt
Revisado: 09-17-04
Eragon was a lot of fun to listen to. Good storytelling, both from the writer and narrator, transports you into a world of fun and adventure. The only downside is that it is book 1 of a series, which I didn't know going in, so with a couple hours left I knew I wasn't going the full closure of the story. But if you know that going in, you will enjoy the ending, as it both brings some closure plus gives a teaser for the next book.
