A lesson in frustration
Revisado: 12-03-22
I wasn't sure I could last thru the entire book because the main character is so frustrating! While you want to feel compassion, it's nearly impossible because of the absence of intelligent behavior -even the voice of the narrator was grating, but I suppose it fit the character. Not a big fan of stories that jump back & forth thru time in order to reveal the storyline & this one takes forever to get a point made. The ending was the cake without the icing - left you hoping you'd never run into this person..

Pretty good story
Revisado: 12-01-22
As detective stories go he's a likeable character - although why do most writers like to make the characters weak by drinking too much? As stories go it had the usual twists and turns, along with a despicable villain. Didn't rock my boat but I finished it.

If you're into weird
Revisado: 11-26-22
If you are into weird this story has it covered! Or if you don't fear hell, this could change your mind. They call it magic but it's just sorcery at its blackist. The demon character did actually make me laugh at times. It's a twisted tale to be sure- not sure if I'd want to listen to another like it though.

If this isn't a movie, it should be!
Revisado: 11-23-22
Either I'd listened to this before or it's already a movie because I kept seeing scenes in my mind. It took me awhile to get used to the narrator, but once that settled I was enraptured by the characters and their lives. Full of emotions, creative scenery & likeable and unlikable characters- a well told story - realistic enough to have actually taken place. Interview with the author at the end reveals she was working on a another book ( this being her first makes it even more impressive) so hopefully that next one is ready & I'll find it! It's a great listen!

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 11-14-22
Was looking for "just a story"- but this was somewhat boring, very predictable & far too long. Found the narrator annoying, the characters insipid & wanted to quit many times but kept hoping it would improve - it didn't. While the spiritual concept didn't bother me, the presentation was weak & whining - not strong & believeable. All the subterfuge was wasted time & didn't help develop the story.

A true love fantasy!
Revisado: 10-16-22
Lots of fun enjoying a true love fantasy- well read too! Every woman's dream with lots of reality throne in to keep it real. A dream location to make it even better. Along with enough twists & turns to keep your interest. Light listening, nothing too disturbing. Like going on a dessert binge!

Good story & narration
Revisado: 09-28-22
Enough twists to make you want to know the ending- and not necessarily the ending you expect. Good narrator! Deals with a lot of not so nice issues, so you have to tell yourself it's not real (although it could be ).

A terrific twisted tale!
Revisado: 09-26-22
Lies seem gone the base of much evil - therein lies a great lesson. Lisa Unger captures the base line of greed, lust, deception - well, the list is long! It's a terrific twisted tale with too much reality to it. Makes you want to have everyone you know investigated- smile. Her psychology is revealing of the apparent needs people have to be loved & what they'll endure to get it. This book held my total interest.

Good story
Revisado: 09-24-22
While hard to follow at times - the stories of past & present are always overlapping. But the twisted tale is captivating & sadly possible for the time period. The ending isn't direct, so you're left to imagine what really happened- at least that's the way I heard it. Enjoyed it regardless!

Couldn't stop listening but...
Revisado: 09-21-22
The two main characters kept me in a state of love /hate relationship with the story. The crazy character made me crazy to the point I kept thinking of ways to eliminate him. The supposedly smarter more stable character was extreme frustration & nearly unbelievable. But I couldn't stop listening. The very end is what lost it a point - too theoretical for too long was glad the author didn't find a way to continue the story. The narrator was excellent- each time he did the crazy guy, I was plotting how to eliminate him. I probably drown, shot, strangled or poisoned that character too many times to remember.
