Meds high expectations
Revisado: 04-02-22
Lovely story , characters, and narration. Fits well into the rest of the series’. I’m glad I’ve listened to all the others first, but it’s not necessary to get this story. Just lots of bonus material.

Historia
Life is a work in progress, as ever-changing as a sandy shoreline along the beach. During the years Joan Anderson was a loving wife and supportive mother, she had slowly and unconsciously replaced her own dreams with the needs of her family. With her sons grown, however, she realized that the family no longer centered on the home she provided, and her relationship with her husband had become stagnant. Like many women in her situation, Joan realized that she had neglected to nurture herself and, worse, to envision fulfilling goals for her future.

Nice personal story but from the perspective of upper middle class
Revisado: 04-28-21
So that might distract you, but the general gist of her story is affirming even if you are not upper middle class. It would be better if she took that specifically into account and addressed how other women might achieve a similar experience without having a summer cabin to retreat to. The parts on finding self and letting children go when they are grown resonate.

Lovely listen
Revisado: 02-14-21
I enjoyed reading the previous books in the series. It took a moment to adjust to listening, but the narrator did a good job and it’s a really nice empowering but somewhat gritty story. Especially nice for relaxing.

Really liked it
Revisado: 05-29-18
There were a few places I got lost and had to relisten. The reader was great except for a few times when pitch and volume would change together. She was very good at using different voices for different characters. I really liked the story and the backstory. Hoping we get number 3 here!

Entertaining and enjoyable
Revisado: 02-07-18
This is not a heavy duty sort of story. It’s a great story, similar in some ways to the Harry Potter stories (rated PG, I’d let my kids listen to it) but it was well done so it was a really lovely escape. I especially like the good vs evil vs crappy stuff happens sometimes and we have to deal with it and move on.

God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

Revisado: 01-26-18
Omg! This is a really phenomenal story. Far more intelligent and thoughtful than most of the audiobooks I’ve found and even liked. It is super relatable, intelligent, thought provoking, crazy smart, and I really REALLY wish there was a sequel. I am a white woman. I ABSOLUTELY love the way she weaves race, gender, children, and other things into the story. If I had to choose...this would be my top sci-fi pick.
