I enjoyed the story line and the narrator was easy to listen to. Unfortunately, with four characters it was somewhat hard to keep track with one narrator speaking for all. I sometimes had to rewind to figure out who was talking.

The two narrators helped to capture your attention while to story pulled you in and kept you listening. Both of the characters fought the instant attraction and I do love the chase. Both are afraid the other will weaken them but then they find out how much stranger they can be together. I think I found another great series and I can't wait to listen to the next book.

Ellen has been through hell and back after being taken by Mischa. Memories that she had long forgotten have come back to haunt her.

Mischa Stepanov has taken the one thing that could break Robert, his wife. He can’t kill her like he thought but instead he will protect her even if it makes him look weak.

Ellen Winthrop has been pulled into a blood feud between the Winthrops and the Mafia that has been going on longer than she has been alive. Stuck between a man that saw her more as a trophy and man who is slowly building her into someone or something, she barely recognizes. With Robert she was meek and quiet but with Mischa she has a voice that is heard and a reason to speak. Mischa knows answers to the secrets that elude Ellen, but some things are better left long dead in the past. Mischa tells her that she is no longer his captive, but she will have to prove her loyalty. But at what price?

Out of all three audibles for the War of the Roses this one brought me to my figuratively knees while listening to it. The emotions that Caitlin Allgood Knight was able to narrate for both characters were almost hard to listen to. It might have been the shortest of the three, but it packed the most punch.

This book crushed me and then built me back up again to crush me yet again. Mischa is strong but at times he lets Ellen in to see that small part that still belongs to the boy that told her to get under the bed and just breath. He has saved her so many times physically as well as emotionally. He is slowly making her stronger while she is tearing down the walls that he has built around that heart that he thought was black. *sigh* With Mischa it’s almost as if he is daring you to get in his head and not giving a shit about what you find. Love me or hate me. It’s Ellen that is slowing it down because she is afraid of what she will find in him. She is using Robert to shield herself from Mischa because if she looks to deep, she may see a reflection of herself or what she might become. The sensations that Mischa can bring out in Ellen scares the hell out of her because she isn’t used to being touched with tender strokes but only with pain.

Ellen Winthrop has always grown up in the background in her home. Her sister Briar preferred the attention and material things. As sisters, Ellen is pretty, but Briar has always been considered beautiful.

Mischa Stepanov has been locked in a mafia blood feud with the Winthrop family for years. Each side taking a victim and now it’s his turn and he will mark them as XV.

When Ellen was a child a boy with a knife broke into her room but instead of hurting her, he makes her get under her bed. He tells her, “Don’t think, don’t move, just breathe.” That becomes Ellen’s mantra through her life and helps to keep her sane. As a child, Ellen had been afraid of monsters but what happens when there is something or someone scarier? The monsters are real, and they have come for her. Mischa decided to kidnap Briar Winthrop as the next victim of the blood feud but instead mistook Ellen for her. When he realizes his error, he questions her. With the mantra being repeated in her head to Breathe, she keeps quiet until he changes tactics. Ellen is used to pain and head games the monsters at home deal out and she can endure her pain in silence. Mischa will use any means necessary to get what he wants whether it’s his fists or a knife.

Listening to Caitlin Allgood Knight narrate this book you feel as if you are in the same room with these two characters. I held my breath for most of the first few chapters. I have fallen in love with audible books and I am wondering why I waited until now to try them.

I loved this beautiful book so much! Lana Sky has such a way with words, and it floors me that each book is even better than the last. This book hooks you from the very first page and takes you on a high-speed ride that never lets you go until the final page. I kept thinking that the next chapter I will stop for the night but then it was another plot twist and I couldn’t put it down. Both Ellen and Mischa have had tragic past that shaped them, but they are incredibly similar. So many things connect them, but they have no idea until the layers start to show themselves. I await with bated breath until the next book in this series.

Ellen (Rose) Winthrop is about to find out that the rules in the game of her life have changed. With more than just her life on the line can she play to win.

Mischa Stepanov has saved Ellen more than once, but can he trust her to save him this time? Can he give her that power?
Ellen has been given information about her past that makes her question her loyalty to both men in her life. One that used her to make himself seem sane and the other that doesn’t question his. Both want her body, mind and soul but which one will she choose? One kept her in a gilded cage of lies and the other wants to teach her to be strong on her own. There is a lot at stake, but can she fill the role, or will she go down in flames and bring Mischa down with her? Everything comes down to the way she plays this game. Win, lose, or draw she needs alliances to go further in the game and with Mischa at her side will she be strong enough?

I enjoyed these audible books so much and I plan on immersing myself in more of Lana’s books as they come out. It brings her characters out even more than just reading them on my kindle.

This book belonged to Ellen and her day of reckoning. She came into her own and she made me so proud. You find out where everything began and the repercussions that followed. Nothing is what it seems, and the secrets keep circling around the same person, her mother. It’s where everything started but it will end with Ellen. I fell in love with Mischa even more in this book. You delve deeper into his mind and how his past intermingles with Ellen. It’s almost as if fate already had them in mind. He shows her that she is stronger than she thinks she is. Ellen teaches him to trust even though it is foreign to him. He doesn’t have to shoulder it all himself with her at his side if he lets her. They make better allies than enemies.
