Historia
Prohibition is a dangerous time to be a working-class woman in New York City, but Vivian Kelly has finally found some measure of stability and freedom. By day, she’s a respectable shop assistant, delivering luxurious dresses to the city’s wealthy and elite. At night, she joins the madcap revelry of New York’s underworld, serving illegal drinks and dancing into the morning at a secretive, back-alley speakeasy known as the Nightingale. She's found, if not love, then something like it with her bootlegger sweetheart, Leo.

Terrific follow-up
Revisado: 07-07-24
The continuation of this compelling story allows the listener to get lost in the exciting time of prohibition. The characters are developed in a way that draws you into their lives and makes you truly invested in them. The narrator brings life to the story and characters through the use of multiple voices and her talents in voice acting. I'd highly recommend this series.

Good story made great by the voice actor.
Revisado: 09-18-22
This is a good book with interesting characters and a captivating story line. The mysterious setting was enhanced by a whodunit plot that never failed to keep me guessing. If all of this wasn't enough, the voice actor brought her considerable skills to bear, with numerous accents and impeccable cadence, to lift the story to the next level.

This book offers a satisfying whodunit against the backdrop of a time of the prohibition era, glamore, and some tough characters. The narrator pulls you in with great voice acting that includes a whole cast of distinct personalities. This one is definitely worth a listen.

Historia
Violette Toussaint is the caretaker at a cemetery in a small town in Bourgogne. Casual mourners, regular visitors, and sundry colleagues - gravediggers, groundskeepers, and a priest - visit her to warm themselves in her lodge, where laughter, companionship, and occasional tears mix with the coffee she offers them. Her life is lived to the rhythms of their funny, moving confidences. But her routine is disrupted by the arrival of the local police chief, who insists on scattering the ashes of his recently deceased mother on the gravesite of a complete stranger.
