Historia
When Joe Pickett is asked to join the rescue efforts for the victim of a startling grizzly attack, he reluctantly leaves his district behind. One survivor of the grizzly's rampage tells a bizarre story, but just as Joe begins to suspect the attack is not what it seems, he is brought home by an emergency on his own turf. Someone has targeted a prominent local judge, shooting at him from a seemingly impossible distance. While the judge was not hit, his wife is severely wounded, and it is up to Joe to find answers - and the shooter.

loved every minute of this book
Revisado: 03-15-25
one of the best to come out for Joe Pickett in several books. I wouldn't push pause until schedule absolutely necessary.

I didn't expect much but I was wrong
Revisado: 09-06-24
I honestly bought this book with no expectations of it. I thought maybe it'll be background noise, it was on sale so why not.
it turned out I thoroughly enjoyed this book. the narrative was really good and despite Joe Hill not being considered in the industry to be a top author I enjoyed each of these stories and some of them really sucked me in and got me hooked.

what was supposed to be dull and boring was exciting and thrilling to listen to
Revisado: 08-27-24
I had no expectations for this book, it was on sale and I thought why not it'll be good background noise. but I really got sucked into it, the author and the narrator does a good job at making a documentary kind of book into a horror book. it's exciting to listen to I'm glad I bought it.

She also has a beautiful home, where she lives with her sister, Michelle, and her son, Zachary. Sure, there’s an ex-husband hanging around - Owen likes to pop round a bit too often - but everything is civilised and amicable. She has life all tied up. But Esme knows that any successful podcaster is only as good as her last story, so she sets out on a new series of interviews to get to the truth behind Simone Fischer’s high-profile murder of her husband.

horrible just horrible
Revisado: 02-04-24
From the moment I started this book i knew I couldn't finish it. the storyline is awful and the narrative is okay.
essentially the main character is supposed to be this genius who built up her own podcast business but she can't do anything without someone holding her hand and she gets death threats because she interviewed a woman who had murdered her husband. but when her sister disappears she cant do anything.
I'm normally a big fan of K L Slater but this was the worst book she's ever written.

Historia
Elizabeth Black is the headmistress of a girls' school in 1830s Victorian London. She is also a well-respected author of stories written both for and about the upper-class ladies of Victorian society. But by night, she writes very different kinds of stories - the Penny Dreadfuls that are all the rage among the working-class men. Under the pseudonym Charles King, Elizabeth has written about dashing heroes fighting supernatural threats, intelligent detectives solving grisly murders, and dangerous outlaws romancing helpless women.

for the most part i thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm not a big fan of going back and forth on past day to present day and this book loves doing that.
the narrator was a little to much at times but enjoyable.

Historia
Wyoming's new governor isn't sure what to make of Joe Pickett, but he has a job for him that is extremely delicate. A prominent female British executive never came home from the high-end guest ranch she was visiting, and the British Embassy is pressing hard. Pickett knows that happens sometimes - these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" aren't uncommon. But no sign of her months after she vanished? That suggests something else.

one of Joe's best
Revisado: 07-11-23
the last several books I've found have been more about Nat than anything else. this book feels more like a Joe from the earlier days and it kept me going the entire time. of course David did great as always on the narrative.
