Historia
Grace Holloway keeps to herself. Since narrowly escaping death at the hands of the man who kidnapped her, she’s thrown herself into the small inn she runs in Rock Harbor, Maine. It’s quiet, quaint and, in the off-season, completely isolated—the perfect place for Grace to keep her own secrets. But Grace isn’t the only one with something to hide, and Rock Harbor isn’t just a sleepy vacation town. Someone is taking young women—girls who look an awful lot like Grace did when she was kidnapped so many years ago.

Male Authors, Ugh.
Revisado: 07-20-24
I had to stop listening after two ridiculous incidents concerning the female character. Male authors have got to stop writing about women’s sexuality and feelings and bodies if they’re not going to do it well. Not even a few chapters in and already the female character has felt a “stirring” at the mere mention of the main character’s name and has been described as being obviously cold, which was commented on and noticed by two male characters (IYKYK). It is such a stereotypical trope that bad male authors use when writing female characters, and I cannot eye roll hard enough. Like, Tell Me You’re Bad At Writing Without Telling Me You’re Bad At Writing.

Historia
The worst thing to ever happen on Hemlock Circle occurred in Ethan Marsh’s backyard. One July night, ten-year-old Ethan and his best friend and neighbor, Billy, fell asleep in a tent set up on a manicured lawn in a quiet, quaint New Jersey cul-de-sac. In the morning, Ethan woke up alone. During the night, someone had sliced the tent open with a knife and taken Billy. He was never seen again. Thirty years later, Ethan has reluctantly returned to his childhood home. Plagued by bad dreams and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things happening in the middle of the night.

A disappointment
Revisado: 07-19-24
I have really enjoyed Riley Sager’s other books, so I was looking forward to this new one. However, it was just…not that good. The characters were flat, it wasn’t believable that 40 year olds would still be so caught up with a tragedy involving a kid they only knew for a short while 30 years ago, and the dialogue seemed immature for everyone’s age. I know these books are just entertainment and not great literature, but the writing and story were not as good as Sager’s other works. Also, the narrator was pretty bad - he made the dialogue of nearly every character have a tone of 13 year old petulance and whining, especially the women characters. His voices for female characters were awful. Overall, this gets a thumbs down and a huge eye roll from me.

Historia
The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

What a mess.
Revisado: 06-21-24
The plot was all over the place. The characters had contradictions that, rather than deepening the character development, it just did not make sense. Also, a big “Ugh, gross” to men writing women so badly. This almost sounded like it was written by AI.

Historia
At the end of a metaphysical conference, reluctant attendee Camille Dare discovers an envelope with her name on it. Filled with travel documents, a photograph, and bloody scarf material, the source of the envelope and its contents remain anonymous, but the directive is clear: Find the missing person in this unusual case. The missing person, Katherine Agurre, comes from a high-profile family. A growing obsession with the missing person case and her own quest for self-understanding compel Camille to begin a trip to meet people she never knew and locations she never expected to visit.

Apparently NOT my Wendy Webb
Revisado: 04-03-24
I wish I'd read the reviews before wasting money on this book. It's AWFUL. Boring, and the narrator sounds almost like an electronic voice. I'm sad I used a credit on this - learned my lesson! This is apparently not the same Wendy Webb I thought I was getting, whose books I have enjoyed immensely. No wonder it was so different and so horrible. Don't waste your money; worse, I can't return it. Ugh.
