Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Terrifying in its realism
Revisado: 08-30-18
Once I started this book I could not stop. It is terrifying in its realism. We think of disasters in terms of days or weeks but this book tells the tale of disaster with no help in sight from the experience of survival efforts of one small town.
Joe Barrett is an excellent narrator and I search for his audio readings.

Too slow
Revisado: 06-08-17
The beginning and end were the best. The middle dragged on a bit too long. However most of this authors books are among my favorites - I have listened to The Walk Series twice and may do so again. Richard Paul Evans is also a great narrator. He should always narrate his own books.

Good beginning and end but the middle went on too long
Revisado: 11-08-16
It is rare that I skip any part of a book I start but i felt compelled to skip a significant part of this one. By eliminating a couple of hours in the middle I was able to get to a satisfying ending.

I love this book!
Revisado: 10-25-15
I have heard this book before and loved it just as much the second time. The characters are believable and loveable and I shall miss them. I only wish there was a sequel. It is a story of a woman whose life is suddenly devastated, her journey for fulfillment, and those relationships she acquired along the way. The reader does a great job and adds to the personality of the characters.

Historia
Liz Murray was born to loving but drug-addicted parents in the Bronx. In school she was taunted for her dirty clothing and lice-infested hair, eventually skipping so many classes that she was put into a girls' home. At age 15, Liz found herself on the streets when her family finally unraveled. She learned to scrape by, foraging for food and riding subways all night to have a warm place to sleep. Then, when Liz's mother died of AIDS, she decided to take control of her own destiny.

Inspiring
Revisado: 07-28-14
Would you listen to Breaking Night again? Why?
This is not the type of book I usually read but I have to say how much I loved it.I am inspired by Liz's story and it is a great reminder that it is possible to overcome great odds with resolve and dedication. Knowing it is a true story, I feel great admiration and affection for the author. Her childhood was so awful and yet she retained compassion for those who neglected her most. The journey to Harvard was long and painful but still she persevered. I recommend this book to anyone who needs inspiration or would enjoy a truly uplifting story. Once I started it I could not stop.
What did you like best about this story?
The journey from a despicable childhood to successful adult.
Which character – as performed by Liz Murray – was your favorite?
Liz, of course!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Her caring and affection for the parents she loved in spite of their weaknesses, illnesses and neglect.
Any additional comments?
Though I usually do not think authors make the best narrators, in this case it was perfect.

I can't wait for the next one!
Revisado: 05-09-13
What did you love best about Step of Faith?
I loved this fourth installment of The Walk series and can't wait for the next one, which I imagine will be the end of the series. The characters he meets along the way are my favorite part of the stories.
I strongly suggest starting with the first book The Walk and hearing them all in order. By the time you reach this one, Step of Faith, the characters will be like old friends.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I could not stop until I reached the end.
Any additional comments?
The author is magnificent. Great stories with hidden meanings which speak to everyone.
