What's for me?
Revisado: 02-07-20
The first 50% tries to talk about habits but in the end you are like "and what's there for me?" I mean you want to apply the info in your own life but I was not able to get it. The second half is kinda about habits, it talks about brain desease to probe we do things by habits, and it talks about "social habits" that are general things that you have heard here and there, nothing new. Then the last 10 minutes it finally starts to talk about how to change your own habits...disappointing, it's very general, no examples and well.
You know what was the best part of the book? In some part, it mentions the life of Rick Warren and that he wrote a book "The purpose Driven Life"...I bought it and I am hearing it and I like it very much. That was the best part, can you believe it?

Read it. Now. And fast. You can thank me later
Revisado: 11-28-19
Great book. I have been following this advice, it works. And yes, you have to give it time, but I can say that in 3 months of following the suggestions you will lose weight and you will just be motivated to continue. Be careful, is not a diet book. No recipes. But you will understand what’s behind being fat and it will give you the chance to act appropriately. If you want the summary: eat natural protein and fat (without any process involved). No carbs (just green plants). No sugar. No flour. That’s too much to ask? Well, you are going to be satisfied with no hunger whit this advice. Steaks? Go ahead. Chicken with skin or turkey? Go ahead. Want to add some lard or butter? Do it, it’s delicious.
And yes, if you happen to buy any food in a package, do it on your own risk and yes: read that label!! I was so shocked to start reading the labels and see “sugar” as an ingredient. Mayonnaise as sugar. That powder to do chicken soup? Sugar. That hamburger that is supposed to have just meat? Well no, it has many other ingredients and yes…sugar. I mean, once you read the labels, you start being aware that they put sugar in any kind of food, even the salty food that is supposed to have no sugar. Incredible. They add it to hook you into their processed food.
At the beginning I was just wishing for bread, sweet bread. After a little bit more than a year I can say I don’t miss bread. At all. _Yes I eat it in special occasions and where there is no other option. I eat it, I enjoy it, and the next day I’m not back into wanting bread again. Same with corn, tortillas. Don’t really miss them. Butter, lard and olive oils add so much flavor to the food.
Sweet tooth? Put stevia.
Want to eat cakes? Hot cakes? Do them with almond flour, search recipes online. They taste sooo good.
Stop drinking sugar. Put stevia to that coffee. No sugary drinks. Drink water…yes, in some months water is just going to be ok.
Pizza? Search for “ketogenic pizza”…I was so surprised to eat it and really be aware of the delicious flavor it has…just like that other flour fattening pizza you eat in Dominos.
Conclusion. Read this book. Even if you are not fat. You will learn tons about nutrition and yes, even lean people can be diabetic because of what they eat plus other diseases. And don’t think following this advice is “hard”, please, you can eat stakes, chicken with skin, coffee with butter, eggs with butter, avocados and some pistachios. And that’s much tasty than your beloved donuts and white bread, sandwiches and sugary drinks. Give it a chance.
The only change I would tell you to do is to eat more protein that fat; here the author suggests the other way around. But for me, I have to eat tons of good fat to be satisfied. I realized that if my plate is 70-80% of protein and the rest of fat, it works great for me because I remain satisfied for hours without hunger…if I don’t do it this way I have hunger in 2-4 hours.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 11-28-19
So, it seems that people that have success were just in the right moment, raised by the right family and were born at the appropriate time. Even the mother of the author. I can agree in some of the points made by the author; yes, those people were in certain circumstances that they took advantage of and bum! Success was the consequence. So, if you just want to hear the stories of these people and what circumstances surrounded them to be successful then go ahead and buy the book. But, and here is a breaking point, if you want to learn something of these stories to apply it to your own life and maybe also be successful, then that’s another different story, the book won’t provide it to you so easily. You have to interpret it. My interpretation is that you have to be aware of your own “circumstances”, your strengths and your advantages that life provides you, and you have to be able to take advantage of them. That’s it. If you are blind to those advantages or circumstances that you have, then you won’t catch them and you won’t be successful or don’t as successful as you could be. So open your eyes. Be aware and know what time you are living, and “see” what you have in your favor. I am not sure that Bill Gates or Steve Jobs were aware or what they have in their hands and they consciously took advantage at that time…maybe after 30 years they were able to see it, but well, that’s another discussion.

Many opinions from the author, not rules
Revisado: 11-28-19
So, you expect 12 rules, right? Well, the book may be divided in 12 rules, but inside each "rule" there are a lot of opinions that have nothing to do with rule itself. The autor talks about personal experiences many many times inside each "rule", and by the way, those experiences have no link with the rule. So, at the end, you really don't know where the explanation of the rule was and there is really nothing concrete or any action you can do in your life. Many times it was jut bla blah blah. Yes I finished the book because I bought it. And one reason why I bought it it was because the many reviews the book has, but for me it was a waste of time. Nothing to learn here. Nothing to apply in my day to day life. Not a single idea that I can say "hey, that sounds good, let's change this or that". And the rules or opinions or whatever they are, are not based in research or some kind of study, it's just the personal point of view of the autor. Hey! Then I could also write my book of the 10, 15 or 20 rules, all based on my experience and I think I can do a better job. That's it, someone had to say it.

Radical Candor is the sweet spot between managers who are obnoxiously aggressive on the one side and ruinously empathetic on the other. It is about providing guidance, which involves a mix of praise as well as criticism - delivered to produce better results and help employees develop their skills and boundaries of success. Great bosses have strong relationships with their employees, and Scott has identified three simple principles for building better relationships with your employees.

Revisado: 10-25-19
Normally when I hear a very good book, I keep registering bookmarks. To hear later all the bookmark (clips) later and hear again an idea. Not the case with this book. Many ideas are like evident, many more work maybe in places like Google or Apple (where she worked), not in a government environment for example where you don't have the flexibility of this companies. So I don't remember a single idea that I would like to implement with my team (I am in charge of 10 people), or something that I would think is a good idea to try. So, it an "ok" book and maybe you can implement ideas in your place and you have the flexibility to do it. For me, after hearing it, and if I had the chance, I would prefer not to have read it.

I worry a lot, this book helped me to understand that some worry is just a waste of time. There are some techniques that you can use and that's great because is not just the typical book that tells you don't to worry and that's it, it actually brings you some good ideas ti implement. Why not 5 stars? Because the good stuff is just in the first half of the book, the rest is not that useful and lacks ideas or techniques. I liked this book.

Waste of time and money
Revisado: 08-26-19
Want to know what this is about? Blah, blah, blah. I just kept listening to actually hear some interesting stuff. Nothing. It kept just talking about to be vulnerable, vulnerability and stuff like that, and I was just like "what"? I could not finish it. Next time I have insomnia maybe I can finish it; I was like in the 60% of the book and it was just so boring and I was waiting for something, at this stage not something amazing, just some useful data. NADA. So, for a book that is really for leadership I suggest The Heart of Leadership of Mark Miller...that book is just packed with useful data after useful data...I guess the whole book is just integrated with tips and actionable things and well...that book was amazing and 100% useful. So get that Miller book and don`t come back.

Astroball is the inside story of how a gang of outsiders went beyond the stats to find a new way to win. When new Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and his top analyst, the former rocket scientist Sig Mejdal, arrived in Houston in 2011, they had already spent more than half a decade trying to understand how human instinct and expertise could be blended with hard numbers. Astroball is the story of the next wave of thinking in baseball and beyond, at once a remarkable underdog story and a fascinating look at the cutting edge of evaluating and optimizing human potential.

Not interesting, only for extreme baseball fans
Revisado: 07-24-19
I am not a baseball fan. Why did I buy this book? The description and comments of listeners said that here you could find lessons beyond baseball, so that you really shouldn't be a fan because you would find it interesting anyway. So, that was not the case. The only lesson here outside basball is "use metrics and statistics to better understand a situation and make predictions", and that's it. No lessons found here or something you can apply "in your life".
If you are a baseball fan and follow the games and so on, then go ahead and buy it, maybe you can find it interesting. If you are not a huge fan, go away...the whole book is about baseball: names, dates, games, facts, players, coaches, etc.

Works for obese people
Revisado: 06-03-19
Ok, if you are obese, you have to follow this and I am sure you will lose fat and you´ll be able to be inside your normal weight. Now, I was already in my weight but have abdominal fat (not so much), so this program is not going to work the way it should. But don´t get me wrong, if you are over weight it will and must help you if you follow the rules here. That´s why I rate this with so many stars....it didn't help me with my little abdominal fat but it will work great for obese...how do I even know that? Because it limits your carbs to 100 a day and from what I do and have read elsewhere, thats the way to go...eat whole foods and limits carbs and quit sugar...it works, for sure!
