Okay, but not my favorite.
Revisado: 04-04-25
I really like the series, but this one is not my fave. The alternate world is almost too oppressive and the characters were not as engaging or relatable as in other books in the series. It felt rushed and like the story and ending weren't completely put together.

Magical Adventure!
Revisado: 03-25-25
I love the Chrestomanci series books because they have enough in common to keep the reader grounded, but each adventure is unique. Conrad. like all the main characters is believable and relatable and the story is just so much fun to read. The narration was perfect as it appropriate and not at all distracting. It let the story shine through!

Fun, interesting, and imaginative story told by the main character as he writes a journal of amazing experiences in retrospect. it tends to meander at the end, but the satisfying ending makes up for it!

Revisado: 10-24-24
An enchanting re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty where the women are not helpless and the fairies all take an active part! The main character, Rosie is strong and opinionated, but also loving and gentle. I really enjoyed how the story kept me guessing until the last page!

Historia
Twelve-year-old Dory Byrne lives with her brothers on New York City's Lower East Side, waiting impatiently through the darkest hours of World War II for her pop to come home from fighting Hitler. Legally speaking, Dory's brother, Fish, isn't old enough to be in charge of Dory and her younger brother, Pike, but the neighborhood knows the score and, like Pop always says, "the neighborhood will give you what you need." There's the lady from the bakery, who saves them leftover crullers. The kind landlord who checks in on them.

Historia
It is 1940 and William, 12, Edmund, 11, and Anna, nine, aren't terribly upset by the death of the not-so-grandmotherly grandmother who has taken care of them since their parents died. But the children do need a guardian, and in the dark days of World War II London, those are in short supply, especially if they hope to stay together. Could the mass wartime evacuation of children from London to the countryside be the answer?

Revisado: 05-20-24
I thought the children's personalities were perfectly engaging with a reluctant leader, a mouthy ne'er do well, and a plucky little sister, all suffering the tragedies of wartime. The story kept me cheering for them the whole way through!
