Revisado: 06-01-24
The story is fine as usual for a Doc Holiday book. But was hard to enjoy at first with how the narration is. The narration is a bit stilted and doesn't flow very well. I got used to it, but the first few chapters were a struggle.

Historia
The war with Gaelis has gone poorly for Alex's foes and well for his allies. He's enriched himself, empowered his county with that coin, and built his county ever higher. The war swings in favor of his Duchess. Yet the war still goes on. The end doesn't seem to be near, nor does Alex feel as if it is as simple as he'd once thought it. Because spring is here. Roads will be opening. Passes will be traversable. Making it possible for armies to march. Which means it's time for Alex to get back to work. Because more than ever, he has a lot to lose, including his newborn children.

Anyways Anyways Anyways. Every character says "anyways" instead of "anyway" and it's like nails on a chalkboard every time. Yes, it's pedantic, The main character has at least slightly redeemed himself in this one. slightly.

Alex is dead. Dead, and apparently with a one-way ticket to a place that only the worst of the worst go. All for a simple choice he made about a product his company owned. Damned for all time. Luckily for him, he's about to be given a chance. Another choice to make. He can return to the land of the living, though his soul would belong to another. Except the world he's being sent to isn't the same one he came from. It's not even a similar period in time, but from something long past in history. The dark ages.

The main character is almost totally reprehensible, but that's the point I guess. I keep waiting for him to grow a conscience but he doesn't.

Historia
Ryker only has one goal in his life right now: Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It isn’t as if they didn’t deserve it either. They had driven him from his home. Chased him physically from the very guild house itself. Simply because he wasn’t as strong as they expected him to be. As strong as he’d expected himself to be. He’d returned the next day and left with something he’d hidden away and told no one about when he found it in one of his few Dungeon Dives.

Bad voice for main character.

Not sure why the choice was made to make the main character sound like a cartoon villian, but it's bad. it is a shame because the rest of the narration is very good.

Historia
In a world full of super powers, Felix had a pretty crappy one. After learning to harness his ability to modify any item he owns, he now runs a corporation that is rapidly expanding - Legion. After tangling with the local Heroes guild they’ve finally settled into a semblance of stability. Sounds great on paper. Run your company, make money, be your own boss, settle down. Except that with running a business, comes an inordinate amount of responsibilities. Like making sure everything keeps running and your people are paid.

Podel is great as always. I'm not sure if I like this book as much as the first, plotwise, but the lack of constantly repeated readings of stats and spreadsheets made it a more enjoyable listen.

Historia
In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Having spreadsheets read to you repeatedly gets old.
Revisado: 01-08-24
The idea is entertaining. The characters not bad so far, but maybe this is a better book to read than to listen to. The narrator is fine, but this book involves repeated readings of apparently entire "spreadsheets" or "character
sheets" some of which take up one or two minutes of narration. And this happens over and over again usually to impart very little changed information. It's ridiculous. The format needed more effort to rework into audio than the director was willing to put in, in guess.

Good Book. One terrible narration choice.
Revisado: 11-28-22
The book is good. The narration is good - easily 4 stars... except... I give it 2... whoever is responsible for Parisa's lazy mumbling and whispering through her chapters in some ham fisted attempt to convey her sultriness has done this book a disservice. I don't recall it being quite so bad in the previous book. I don't know who directed that narrator to perform it that way but it really detracts from the overall presentation. In fact, this book and it's predecessor probably would have been better served.by a single narrator than a cast.

I like this series, I really do, but...
Revisado: 10-10-21
I like this series. I like the characters - the stories are generally fun and entertaining. But what the heck- did the author have to cut and paste the same explanatory text about the protagonist's car (and other things) in every book? The exact same paragraphs with the exact same words? There is other occasional pointless repetition in a couple of this series' scenes that grated too. But... Despite that. Still fun.

Two years ago, Lieutenant Commander Roslyn Chambers stood witness to the surrender of the last remnants of the Republic. Now, a special commission from the Mage-Queen of Mars takes Roslyn deep into the former Republic to hunt the architects of that atrocity. Mages who betrayed their own, the creators of Project Prometheus must be brought to justice. But hidden from even the Republic, Prometheus has woven magic and technology together once more.

Meh.
Revisado: 05-26-21
I like the character of Chambers in this series, and while it's nice to see her taking the lead for an entire book, the book wasn't particularly good. My usual complaint about this series is how slow the overall arc is moving, usually relegated to little except the last chapter, where the players in the overall arc are revealed, and this book is not an exception. But more than that, this story was pretty much a rehash of an often used, tired out main story line about which I can not say more without spoilers.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.
