The unique twist on the Cinderella classic.
Revisado: 06-27-24
This was a fun twist on the Cinderella classic story, not going where I expected it to go. It kept my attention and I loved the message of what true love is as it was woven through a story that had twist and turns taking you on an entirely different “happy ever after” course. Very well done.

Historia
Jesus' treatment of women was revolutionary. That's why they flocked to him. Wherever he went, they sought him out. Women sat at his feet and tugged at his robes. They came to him for healing, for forgiveness, and for answers. In Jesus through the Eyes of Women, Rebecca McLaughlin explores the life-changing accounts of women who met the Lord. By entering the stories of the named and unnamed women in the Gospels, this book gives listeners a unique lens to see Jesus as these women did and marvel at how he loved them in return.

What a wealth of information and knowledge in six chapters!! The author reads this book and adds an additional dimension to this read. I highly recommend this book and can honestly say I did not realize how much Jesus respected women. Such a encouraging book.

I have been struggling to articulate what it means to live within the community and family of God. Jethani has done an incredible job illustrating what in life "with" God looks like.

Challenging and thought-provoking
Revisado: 08-21-19
Shapiro does a masterful job of recounting our history and how we have arrived at the situation in which we find ourselves. The two most powerful concepts of our moral framework and our purposeful design show how we should not only live our lives in community, but how we should engage in politics, how we should stand up for reason and science, and how we should always be moving the ball forward from the history with which we have come. Neither forgetting nor rejecting the history but uilding upon and within the walls we find ourselves.

Truly enchanting.....
Revisado: 09-07-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Enchantment to be better than the print version?
I love this audio. The readers are excellent. There are two. At first I was disappointed that Stefan Rudnicki did not do the entire reading as he is so excellent but the female reader did a nice job as well so it was all good. I preferred the audio of this book because the readers did such a nice job bringing the culture into their voices. I knew what had taken place in the 'real' world during this time period having just read Secondhand Time (Russian history) and it made Enchantment even better.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Each character had their own lovable aspect. I think though the mother was my favorite.
Have you listened to any of Stefan Rudnicki’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not but will look for his other readings now that I have heard him.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No..... it flowed nicely and I just enjoyed it in its entirety.
Any additional comments?
There was a bit more crass language than I would have liked but it did fit the book and the characters.

Historia
A child peeling an orange on the subway. A bearded man with gentle eyes holding a tin cup on the corner. When we see life through the lens of faith, everyday moments become a source of hope and strength. In this collection of essays, chaplain Andrea Raynor reveals the unexpected places she has experienced the Divine and shows us how we, too, might come to see life as a spiritual adventure - one on which we are never truly alone.

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-07-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I was disappointed in the theology of this book. It was not what I expected and I actually decided not to finish the book since her approach was not, in my opinion, backed up biblically. She did a great job on word pictures however and I am sure she is a blessing to those coming from her theological and philosophical position.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not sure.
Would you be willing to try another one of Andrea Raynor’s performances?
No
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No

You're strong. You're responsible. You're good. But…as day fades to dusk, you begin to feel the familiar fog of anxiety, the weight and pressure of holding it together and of longing left unmet. Good girls sometimes feel the Christian life means doing hard work with a sweet disposition. We tend to focus only on the things we can handle, our disciplined lives, and our unshakable good moods. But what would happen if we let grace pour out boundless acceptance into our worn-out hearts and undo us?

This was very well written book. It tells us exactly what we are with and without resting in God. One of the best descriptions I have ever read about living in Him and not in ourselves. Love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple explanation to the challenge of living in Christ.
