Historia
When Princess Atalanta is born, a daughter rather than the son her parents hoped for, she is left on a mountainside to die. But even then, she is a survivor. Raised by a mother bear under the protective eye of the goddess Artemis, Atalanta grows up wild and free, with just one condition: if she marries, Artemis warns, it will be her undoing. Although she loves her beautiful forest home, Atalanta yearns for adventure. When Artemis offers her the chance to fight in her name alongside the Argonauts, the fiercest band of warriors the world has ever seen, Atalanta seizes it.

Another great story with an utterly unlikable narrator
Revisado: 12-08-23
Much like Elektra, the author is taking a largely underrepresented character, and offered an interesting new perspective, staying mostly accurate to the myths that the stories are based on, but providing insight to the characters mind and desires. However, while I already disliked Elektra from her source material I was not prepared to dislike Atlanta. For admittedly knowing nothing about the world, she sure is fast to make judgments of others and while her conviction might usually be admirable it means that she seems unwilling to change them. Her cockiness might be something to admire is it so rarely something we get to see from a female point of view but it’s tarnished by the way that she is constantly saying how others have them less to prove themselves when this question is literally her first time out of the woods. And then as a shocking turn of events she is not a girls girl with her mistrusting, and even disliking most if not all of the women we meet having grown up with only women. All that said I did enjoy the story!

Historia
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

If you leave off in the middle of the chapter the single voice actor (as much as I enjoy his Reap) makes it harder to track what’s what (and I loved Quirk)

The narrator GULPS
Revisado: 06-01-23
I enjoyed the story, even though I frequently felt myself wanting to scream at the main character bc she is awful I enjoyed it. However I had to listen at 2x speed to try and distract from the way the reader GULPS for air in between breaths a swallow of recording always bugs me these were loud and constant. This is on the editor, obviously the reader has to take breaths

Could have used one more round of editing
Revisado: 05-03-23
Loved this book, like most readers of this book I’m a huge PJO+ fan so I was really excited for this and it didn’t disappoint. However I found small editing or issues, I have no idea if they are printed or if it was the narrator but small things like a gendered pronoun for NB characters three times, at one point Nico yells that his moms name was Bianca etc. not a huge deal but definitely something to look at if they don more books like this.

Historia
Nationally bestselling author of Daughters of Sparta Claire Heywood returns with an imaginative and female-centered reinterpretation of the myth of the great hero Perseus, told through the voices of three women who are sidelined in the traditional version—his mother, Danae; his trophy, Medusa; and his wife, Andromeda—but whose viewpoints reveal a man who is not, in fact, a hero at all.

A bit misogynistic?
Revisado: 04-19-23
Disappointed, I enjoyed daughters of Sparta and assumed I would love this one, and i first I thought I would. In a world where men are quick to blame their problems on women watch three women also blame themselves and who does it all circle back to? His mom, she was over protective and yet somehow non nurturing. We meet a boy who is scared to kill turn into someone who swings first and is this bc his mother wouldn’t let him when he was young? That’s the implication. Watch the proud leader of women forget her whole lives work bc she’s lonely and wants this boys love? Wait assuming the gods that make this heros journey possible in the source material don’t exist and therefore cannot be pointed to as the reason for confusion. And watch Stockholm syndrome in action as it’s poorly justified as a woman trying to live

Achilles has fled her home and her vicious Myrmidon clan to live as a woman with the kallai, the transgender priestesses of Great Mother Aphrodite. When Odysseus comes to recruit the “prince” Achilles for a war against the Hittites, she prepares to die rather than fight as a man. However, her divine mother, Athena, intervenes, transforming her body into the woman’s body she always longed for, and promises her everything: glory, power, fame, victory in war, and, most importantly, a child born of her own body.

If this book was about original content or even a less told story it could be great
Revisado: 03-03-23
Great concept!! If this book was about original content or even a less told story it could be great (if not a little fan ficy/YA) there is world building and exploration of lots of mythologies, it falls short where it tries to shoe horn in bits from the base mythologies without really using them (characters at times take actions that just don’t make any sense (I mourned the loss of one relationship especially when it was replaced with a sickening couple)). I have studied Greek (and Egyptian) myth in US english, UK English, Greek, and Latin. It took me an hour to get used to the - creative way most names were read (the Egyptian+ names that were added didn’t help as they 1) have so many and 2) were also pronounced in a way I hadn’t heard). The last hour makes this book worth the listen. Like I said, this would be great if it was painted onto an original backdrop instead of onto the Trojan war but worth the listen.

Most of the suspenseful parts are nearly comical due to the whining tone the narrator used, when not doing the “weepy” voice it’s compelling but what could have been the best parts were ruined but the petulant whining

Elektra is is worst
Revisado: 09-13-22
Love the book! Great story but goodness Elektra is such a stupid girl. You watch her create her own misery over and over (true to the myths). I almost dislike the book bc of how terrible she is, very well written.
