Fourth wing is a mix of Eragon and Divergent with addition of 'hot' scenes. But unlike Divergent, I actually enjoyed this book and the end of every chapter forced me to listen on and on. I finihsed the book much quicker than I expected. I really liked it, even if there are some things I feel like I need to comment on:

SPOILER:
The main character is supposed to be 'fragile' because of the state of her body, but I must say, that apart from a few scenes at the beginning of the book, she didn't feel 'fragile' at all. I felt like she fit in the academy a little too well, give then fact that she's been preparing herself for a different carreer her whole life.

I really appreciate the story to be slow-burn, because it gave the reader a chance to get aquainted with all the characters to depth. Moreover, there is this element of students truly being students and not getting mixed up with the matters of 'adults' and trying to 'save the world', as it is in most of the fantasy books. It changes a bit in the end, but it makes suprisingly a lot of sense there. So, I really like that the students have their own agenda and they are not mixed up with the problems of the state from the beginning.

I read someone marking this book as 'soft porn'. Well I guess there is something about it. The scenes where Violet is pining after Xaden is too many and if these were a bit shorter, it would probably do the book good. xD

If you've read Divergent, there are a lot of scenes where you will feel like you suddenly changed a book and jumped into a different story. It's really similar in some moments. Especially the first part of the book.

But all in all, it is a really good book. The universe is slowly and meticulously built and it's written really in a really catchy style. I'm definitelly going to listen to the second book.

Narrator is really good. I like how she speeds up in certain scenes, building the atmosphere.

If you like history, fantasy and a bit of romance, this might be the right book for you. The author created a universe full of magic of the old Egypt around the real events of Alexander's military campaigne to the Middle East and Egypt.

Despite meeting Alexandre in the book almost all the time, he is not the main character. The main role of the book play his decissions, which change lives of people in his army. The reader looks at Alexandre by the eyes of Meriamon, the Egyptian priestest who is a bit of a mystery for everyone - Alexandre, his army, her bodyguard and sometimes even for herself. Even though it sounds a little vague, I really enjoyed Meriamon's character, because she is strong, hardheaded, sometimes pretty weird, but totally herself.

I've read this book at least 4 times. To me it's already classics and I've been coming back to it every few years. Even though I'm looking at it with much more critical eyes these days, undoubtedly, in a few years a time will come, when I will have to read Lord of the two lands again. It's one of my most favourite books. That being said, I must admit that the narrator kinda spoiled the experience for me this time. The narrator, trying to change his voice tones to sound like woman, makes him sound like 80 old woman instead of 20 something. At the beginning I was genuinely mad and thought about returning it and rather read it in classical form again. In the end I endured. But I don't think I would want to hear anything from this narrator ever again.

I listened to 'Frankenstein' as an audiobook and I must say straight away, that if I were to read it, I probably wouldnt finish. The 19th century language was really a lot on my brain. However...

I'm really happy that I listened to this book, because I found out, I actually don't know the story of 'Frankenstein' at all. I had the story confused with some modern interpretations, which obviously have a little to do with the original.

Usually, I'm not into long descriptions of the landscape, but here I didn't mind at all, because the story takes place in Geneva and I live nearby. Therefore all the landscapes were alive in front of my eyes and I knew exactly what places Victor was talking about. It was like take a walk around my region, but two hundred years ago - amazing experience.

What impressed me was, how the author described all the feelings and inner struggles of Victor Frankenstein. His feelings are not really different from those of people today. I found myself in a lot of his thoughts. His struggle was depicted masterly.

The end of the book surprised me and confirmed that I really didn't know the story at all. Overall I really loved the book and narration. It is a period piece in many ways, but some thoughts in this story are timeless. It is called classics for a reason.

This book was very helpful and full of discoveries for me. I have ADHD and I've had it since a child. But I haven't done anything to deal with it so far (31 years) and thanks to this book I've discovered how unecessarily difficult it's made my life.

Every ADHD is different so be sure that not all of the things described in this book will fit to you. But I found myself in many of the described situations and it helped me understand exactly how and why I got myself into such states of mind. The author uses real life stories to describe the problems which makes the book easy to follow. It also provided me with good ideas on how to perceive the situations and how to deal with it.

So if you have ADHD and don't know what to do, yes, this is a good book for you. But I warn you, it's not always easy reading. There were a few chapters when I was like: 'F**k! How the hell am I going to live like this for the rest of my life?' or 'If someone will ever want to date me again, that person will have to go through a list of obligatory reading to make sure they know what they are getting themselves into.' ... but all in all it's a very good book.

I enjoyed the narrative and didn't have any problems keeping attention. The only bad thing is that there is no pdf attachment to it and there are some parts with questionnaires where it really would be needed. So if you want to make the most of this book, go for a printed edition! ;)

I liked the original Grisha series. It wasn't the best thing I've ever read but appreciated the new universe the author created and also how much better the narration was with each book. But... oh my God with this book Bardugo put her original series to shame! I really need to stop to say how much better her writing got in this book. I never though such a change was even possible for an author. Especially when operating in the same universe. But seriously, this was something else and I am bowing deeply in front of this author for managing to overcome herself and giving us a masterpiece like 'Six of Crows'.

With this book I wasn't bored for a single second. The characters had depth, their own stories and mindsets and their own motivations. It was amazingly refreshing. I also loved how the narration of their back stories was unfolding during the story. That was a very nice element. The only negative thing was that I didn't believe for a single second that they could be in their late teens. I still saw them something in their late 20's. But that doesn't change my possitive opinion on the story in the slightest.

I am giving Six of Crows 5 stars and I don't do that very often. The narration was equally great and I was able to sympathize with each character. Big thanks to these amazing actors!

I am going to start the second book as soon as possible, because at the end I was left breathless and in anticipation for more.

And after that I will somehow have to cure myself from a pretty bad crush on Kaz Brekker. Because... well... if you read the book, you'll understand. xD

I haven't read anything from this author yet and this title just peaked at me from the library, so I've decided to give it a try. I do not regret. It was a nice listening and a relaxing story. The characters were well described and believable. Both of them have their own past and mindset. The way their worlds collided at the beginning was quite intense and it was predictable that they were meant to meet again. Anything that happened after that was a surprise for me. The story was full of small turns that kept me somehow interested and made the listening quite enjoyable.

I only think that the story could have been longer. I somehow felt that the last 30 minutes went too fast and I would be interested in knowing more of what was going on in both characters minds at that time. Because at the beginning of the story we got a lot of insight into their minds and then it was suddenly cut of and only the action was left in the narrative. I personally feel like Tobby, with his life experience could have been more reluctant to go with Miles plan. But that my opinion.

Otherwise nice story. Not a waste of my time. Even though it's not my genre I might be inclined to explore more of this author's portfolio in the future.

The narrators - excellent work there! I love how they work with their voices and how they made the characters alive. I think I will remember Tobby's voice and accent longer than the story itself. xD

Fine ending of the series

I liked the second book a bit more, but even so 'Ruin and rising' is a very fine ending of the series. Given the fact that I was expeting literally nothing from this saga and the first book didn't make much impression, in the end the Grisha saga will end up at the list of my favourites series.

The third book went with a nice tempo, not too fast, not too slow. I really liked how Alina grew as a character. At the beginning she felt plain in every way, but she changed into a strong character on a way. I think we can thank Nikolaj and the Darkling for that.

SPOILER!
I don't understand why Alina chose Mal in the end, because the chemistry between Nikolaj and her felt much more natural than anything between her and Mal. To me, Mal was the side kick character that we never really got a chance to get to know better. Unfortunatelly same goes for the Darkling. His story was explained, but I feel like there could have been much more to it. But I am happy that there was much more mythology and history in the second and the third book. I missed that in the first one. The only thing I regret a bit is the final battle. It felt too fast and it was over before I could even get into the mood.

Anyway Bardugo is a queen of plot twists and in this final book there were at least 3 that kept me excited, interested and forced me to listen on and on. A bow for that.

The whole series was very original universe that I enjoyed and I will definitelly continue with other books from the author.

The narrator really got to me during the three books. I don't think I can ever watch the Netflix series again, because the actors simply wont have the right voices. xD

I liked the second book much more than the first one. The first story felt shallow but here the author took us deeper into the history of Grishaverse. Not too much, but it it explained a lot.

SPOILER!
The first part of the story, where Alina and Mal were in Novija Zem felt almost needless, given how fast they returned back to Ravka, but I understand why it had to happen. Since the moment Alina returned back at sea with the Darkling, I had a feeling like there was something missing and like I skipped over a part of the story. I was sincerely a bit lost there. But from the moment Alina returned to Ravka the story was much more enjoyable. I enjoyed the intrigue, politics and how Alina had to how to adjust to her new role. As a heroine she grew in character and is much more sympathetic, even when she makes tones of mistakes. I like her here much more than in the first book.

I really enjoyed the character of Nikolaj - he became my favourite. I don't get why Alina still whines after Mal, when she can have a prince but... whatever. xD

The ending of the book surprised me. The plot twist with attack at Os Alta was really unexpected. Everything happened so fast and I was left speechless and had to start listening to the 3rd book immediatelly.

The narrator also grew in my eyes. I got used to her interpretation of The Darkling, Genia, Zoya and others. She does really great job changing voices for different charaters!

5 stars for the narrator, 4 stars for the story!

For me the final book of the series was the strongest one. Unlike the first and the second book the story was not tardy and it went on and on without long description of deep feelings about which we've heard 40x over before. I even had a problem to stop listening to the story and finished it much faster than I though I would.

SPOILER!!!
The giant thing that happened to Emma and Julian felt a little too much, but only when I was thinking about it later. When I was reading it it felt heartbreaking, so no problem. xD
About the end of the Cohort agaist the Clave... that was really surprising and left the door opened for some continuation.... as well as the story of Tiberius and Kit. I've heard that the author wants to write a book about this duo + Dru - I would be trully interested in that. I hope it will come.

Generally said this series was a bit weaker than The Mortal instruments and The Infernal devices, but it was still fun to read (listen to) xD. In the end, I give four stars because the whole series is well developed and all the details fit together beautifully.

The story was nice. I really liked the ideas of the Grishaverse. The tempo of the book was pretty fast, which is usually thrilling. With this book I sometimes missed deeper explanation of the universe or characters. Unfortunately I can't say I grew fond of any of them. But I am curious about the story of the darkling and Mal, because I feel like the book only scratched the surface with these two characters.

The narrator did a good job. Unfortunately I listened to Hunger Games at the beginning of the year and I felt like the narrator was almost the same. Sometimes I had to remind myself that I'm not listening to Katniss Everdeen but Alina Starkov. But that's my problem. 🤣

Overall it was a pleasant and easy listening. I am going to continue listening to the second book.

Big thanks to the production team.
