Jane Halliwell once dreamed of a home of her own—but those dreams (and her dowry) died with her father. Now, she works as a governess, preparing her charge for a future no longer within her reach. When her employer is murdered during a house party, however, Jane is forced back into the world of the ton. But stepping in as hostess will require working with the same lord who once broke her girlish heart.

Not her usual fare
Revisado: 08-15-24
Manda Collins usual uproarious stories have been replaced by this middling, predictable fare. It’s fine, but not special.
The recording has an unfortunate range in sound that makes it difficult to hear all the words- too much whispering. Otherwise a good reading.

Historia
In the latest volume of his celebrated series of Time Traveler's Guides, Ian Mortimer turns to what is arguably the most-loved period in British history—the Regency, or Georgian England. A time of exuberance, thrills, frills, and unchecked bad behavior, it was perhaps the last age of true freedom before the arrival of the stifling world of Victorian morality. At the same time, it was a period of transition. Conveying the sights, sounds, and smells of the Regency period, this is history at its most exciting—the past not as something to be studied, but as lived experience.

Well written and detailed history of the time.
Revisado: 07-21-24
As a fan of fiction during this period, I’ve often wondered about relative costs, livelihoods, lifestyles etc. This book covers these and more in great detail.
The author is also very good reader, which is not always true.
Well worth your time.

Historia
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Best in a while.

A more interesting story than many Royal Spyness Mysteries recently. And Georgie whines less than other books.
I like the series and the reader/actor. But after a few went downhill, this one is an improvement.

Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

Much too long
Revisado: 08-20-22
Normally I like this series, or I wouldn’t be 12 books in.
The middle third could mostly be cut. She goes on and on with obvious clues.
One can forgive a 23-year old in 1935 for not jumping to it and getting help, but the book should have cut at least an hour. It was painful and I found myself skipping ahead.

Poor Addition
Revisado: 12-04-21
The new character of Kweenie is hard to take. Bowen hasn’t done enough to make her likable. Kellgren’s voice for Kweenie is grating. Might be tough to finish the series.

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Better than the Movie
Revisado: 10-18-21
I haven’t seen the movie since it’s first run, but I remember it fondly.
Full of detailed characters and descriptions, this is a lovely book that makes me want to go to Italy in April.
Eleanor Bron reads more than performs the book, but that works with the way the book is written. I highly recommend it.

He remembers his teen summers spent working in a movie Cineplex and his early years doing stand-up. Readers are also treated to several graphic elements, including a vampire tale for the rest of us and some greeting cards with a special touch.

And some are not. The title chapter is excellent. Some others are interesting. Some are really unlistenable.
Not nearly as good as Silver Screen Fiend.

Historia
Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell is whisked off to a remote island off the tip of Cornwall when her natural historian colleague Stoker's brother calls in a favor. On the pretext of wanting a companion to accompany him to Lord Malcolm Romilly's house party, Tiberius persuades Veronica to pose as his fiancée. But upon arriving, it becomes clear that the party is not as innocent as it had seemed. Every invited guest has a connection to Romilly's wife, Rosamund, who disappeared on her wedding day three years ago, and a dramatic dinner proves she is very much on her husband's mind.

Good over all
Revisado: 09-15-21
I liked the story. I liked that it was set away from London. I appreciated the progress in the back story.
Unfortunately, Angell Masters is having increased difficulty differentiating between males. Three of the main males
sounded nearly the same, and a younger male often also sounded the same as well. I hope she improves in future books.

Katherine Kellgren is pretty good. She differentiates the characters well.
The story took a while to get started. The main character is a bit too dense.
