The story is good…if you make it to the end. Book is waaay longer than it needs to be and hard to believe.
Book was okay but so much “filler” not much meat!

The book is, as always, amazing!
The narration was frustrating as he screams and then whispers. I had to replay sections and adjust the volume continuously. His voice and inflection are good but his volume shifts so radically that it becomes irritating.

Do not let any narrator do Pendergast but the one who does Pendergast as the main character. This narrator nearly destroyed the book for me by doing Pendergast as an upper crust Brit. Pendergast is from New Orleans. It was truly all I could do to keep listening. Pendergast is iconic and this was just insulting.
If you can’t get “the voice of Pendergast” to make a cameo appearance, have someone convey his thoughts as in “Pendergast said...”.
Please!

I loved the book UNTIL the narrator voiced Agent Pendergast with a British Aristocracy accent! He has a voice that we have all come to know and love, it should have been used in this book. He is a southern gentleman from New Orleans, not an FBI Agent from across the pond! Did the narrator even listen to the prior books to understand what he should sound like? “My dear authors...”, I found this version of Pendergast distracting and I had trouble listening to the conclusion.

Otherwise, Bravo!

Story is good, Scarpetta is not

I used to really enjoy these novels...the story is good but all of the introspection by Scarpetta gets old. I am not sure if it is the narrator or the writing...Scarpetta whines a lot and seems to always be wallowing in self pity, doubt and insecurity. Men always seem to be attracted to her though she is married to a wealthy, intelligent one and the good Doctor always seems to be torn between the other men and her husband. Lucy has become an unbelievable character who struggles to just enjoy life while having an insane amount of money and focusing on possessions. Poor Marino continues to be portrayed as an impulsive, angry dim wit with little self control. The plot and development of the story is good but the characters seem to devolve in each book rather than evolve. A good listen but Dr. Scarpetta might want to seek counseling in a future book to lighten her mood!

AVOID IT! The very WORST Patterson ever! I love James Patterson and wanted to heave my iPod out the window as I listened. We should be paid to listen to this one...for the pain and suffering. If you are a Patterson fan, listen to an old book twice and maintain your positive image of him.
