Historia
With a horse between his thighs and a weapon in his grip, the dashing Brigadier Etienne Gerard, Colonel of the Hussars of Conflans, gallops through the Napoleonic campaigns on secret missions for his beloved Emperor and his country. He encounters danger and hair-breadth escapes but never loses his bravado, his eye for a pretty girl, his boastfulness or his enormous vanity.

A superb narration of Doyle’s great Napoleonic hero’s exploits.

Rupert Degas’ narration is fantastic and immersive. A great listen and wonderful fun. Brigadier Gerard is a triumph and a treat for any fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Historia
Over the course of his 60 years, Christopher Hitchens has been a citizen of both the US and the UK. He has been both a socialist opposed to the war in Vietnam and a supporter of the US war against Islamic extremism in Iraq. He has been both a foreign correspondent in some of the world's most dangerous places and a legendary bon vivant with an unquenchable thirst for alcohol and literature. He is a fervent atheist, raised as a Christian, by a mother whose Jewish heritage was not revealed to him until her suicide. He sees all sides of an argument and believes the personal is political.

The background music distracts and deters from Hitch’s beautiful prose and voice.
Revisado: 05-09-20
I love Hitchens and have read most of his later works. I was very excited to listen to this book after reading it a number of years ago. Sadly, there is music in the background that drowns out Hitchens’ voice. When the music is soft enough to hear the great man, it’s still distracting from the story and adds nothing to the performance. A real shame.
