This is an excellent book for getting a fresh, 50K ft view of business strategy. Yes it is a bit dry - but the material is rock solid and should be required reading for anyone in business today to help create a broader view of your customers and your markets.

This is a fantastic book that gives you a completely new view of Google. By understanding more of its origins, I have a clearer understanding of their future and how some recent decisions/products (self-driving cars, glasses, etc) now make more sense in the context of a greater mission. Very well researched - highly recommend this book.

There is some useful information in this book - but it is so entangled with the self-promotional material by the author that it actually loses all credibility in my view. I know the author has been successful and I have no doubt that he is very talented but this book becomes very irritating very quickly.

What disappointed you about Carrots and Sticks?
I tried so hard to like this book.. it just lacks any substance, it is so dry.. and if that doesn't put you off - it is full of self-promotion / plugs for the author's web business.
I rarely give up on a book, but this was one that I simply could not go any further than half way.. sorry Ian. But that was four hours that I will never get back.
I really could not and would not recommend it to anyone.
