Historia
Ten thousand years after humans figured out how to stop wandering and plant crops, veteran investigative journalist Mark Schapiro plunges into the struggle already underway for control of seeds, the ground-zero ingredient for our food. Three-quarters of the seed varieties on Earth in 1900 had become extinct by 2015. In Seeds of Resistance, Schapiro takes us onto the frontlines of a struggle over the seeds that remain, one that will determine the long-term security of our food supply in the face of unprecedented climate volatility. More than half of all commercially-traded seeds have fallen under the control of just three multinational agri-chemical companies....

Scarry crap indeed
Revisado: 03-03-25
This book really hits into the heart of the world we live in. Many years ago I read the book Wind Up Girl by Paulo Bacigalupi. A totally fictional book about future where calories are the standard unit for everything. Seeds of Resistance is the non fiction precursor to that book. it's just terrifying to know what's coming

I guess this would be a near zombie book.
Revisado: 09-08-21
Lots of characters, looks of sorta character development. It reminded me of one of those 80s B grade horror movies that you can't wait for half the crew to get killed off so you wouldn't have to hear anything else from them. I loved the plot and the ending just not sure of how I got there. I would recommend this book to everyone.

Historia
In his 2005 book, The Long Emergency, James Howard Kunstler described the global predicaments that would pitch the USA into political and economic turmoil in the 21st century - the end of affordable oil, climate irregularities, and flagging economic growth, to name a few. Now, he returns with a book that takes an up-close-and-personal approach to how real people are living now - surviving The Long Emergency as it happens.

Historia
In the not-distant-enough future, a man takes a boat trip up the Susquehanna River with his most trusted friend, intent on reuniting with his son. But the man is pursued by an army, and his own harrowing past; and the familiar American landscape has been savaged by war and climate change until it is nearly unrecognizable. Lost Everything is a stunning novel about family and faith, what we are afraid may come to be, and how to wring hope from hopelessness.

Disturbing
Revisado: 05-16-21
I am torn to even describe the book. Is it a melodrama? Maybe written in a 19th century poem describing a 21 century apocalyptic or it is a stoner on a bad trip predicting the future. Michael did narrate the story in a 1940s style reminding me of the older books written during the golden age of pulp fiction. Great job

Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.
