Historia
Richard Fountain, a promising young Cambridge scholar, went to the island of Crete to study ancient rites and pagan rituals before, suddenly and inexplicably, breaking off all contact with the outside world. Disturbing rumors have filtered their way back to England, whispering of blasphemous rituals and obscene orgies, hints of terrible crimes and wanton murder.

An excellent period piece
Revisado: 03-14-20
Very well done psychological thriller/horror tale with a twist of Greek vampirism. The narrator gives us a delightful set of buttery, balmy Voices that give excellent feel and tone to the story. If you are looking for a delightful period piece in British Academia, this is a gem. Thus as you might expect, this is an intellectually disturbing rather than gore-spattered contribution to the genre.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Best Science Fiction novel since Ender’s Game.
Revisado: 05-17-18
This is simply the best traditional science fiction in almost 40 years: it asks and explores questions of science and humanity and our place in the universe with courage and imagination.

Historia
There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The first item on his to-do list: Spending his newfound windfall. On an urge to splurge, he signs up to have his head cryogenically preserved in case of death. Then he gets himself killed crossing the street. Waking up 117 years later, Bob discovers his mind has been uploaded into a sentient space probe with the ability to replicate itself.

We are awesome!
Revisado: 10-09-16
We are Bob has all of the quirky style and humor of Ready Player One or The Fold but with a voice and SF introspection all it's own. Beginning with the notion of self-replicating probes guided by a human-derived AI, Taylor gives us a series of stories that diverge as the original Bob's personality diverges across clones. One of the best 5 SF novels in the last few years!

Essential Steampunk!
Revisado: 03-08-14
The first in what is really a trio of interlocked novels that explore a steampunked Victorian British Empire through the adventures of Richard Burton and Algenon Swinburne. Mechanical men, steam-based technology, werewolves, high brow philosophy, low brow but hysterically creative humor, thrills, adventure, time travel, and 3 college credits worth of historical figures recast in an interwoven tale. What fun! This trio of novels is in the top 20 of the over 500 I've listened to on Audible. Great story, perfect narrator. Don't miss this one.
