So fun to be back with Zara's craziness...........
Revisado: 07-13-21
Winter in Wisteria is the twelve title in the Wisteria Witches Series, and it has all the usual earmarks of Angela Pepper's zaniness. Although the story in the book is enjoyable as a standalone, any listener will get the most fun by listening to it as part of the series. Many of the characters and the overall feel of Wisteria has developed over the previous eleven books. The main character, Zara Riddle, just gets more delightful with each outing, and I am continuing to love her relationship with her vampire, police detective boyfriend. I think that my favorite part of Winter is Wisteria was the young man without magical powers. Angela Pepper used true insight into how everybody - especially teenagers -- feels about not being good enough, athletic enough, successful enough, etc. I really related to how devastated this young man felt because he was normal in a town full of supernatural people. Of course, we can always count on Zara to not only save the day but inject some much- needed kindness and optimism into any situation.
Tiffany Williams narrates all of Zara Riddle's books, and I can't imagine any other voice for her. Zara's effervescent personality shines through every page of the book no matter the circumstances, and I think that is in large part due to Williams' performance. I am already anxious to listen to the next collaboration by Peppers and Williams.

I never expected to meet the woman of my dreams in a coffee shop. Especially when she's a famous Hollywood actress and I'm nothing but an overworked, underpaid barista. Only I already have someone special - my son. Providing for him and getting through college are my top priorities. Dating while juggling single fatherhood isn't.

Cora finally gets her chance at true love.........
Revisado: 10-29-20
One Good Thing is a standalone novel, but it focuses on a secondary character from her 3 Ugly Guys Series, Cora Bentley. I fell in love with Cora and her kindness and accepting personality in Detour. Although she is a famous movie star with a bubbly, outgoing personality, she always seemed a little lonely to me in previous books. In One Good Thing, she meets a single father struggling to work, put himself through college, and take care of a special needs toddler. These two couldn't be from more opposite ends of the spectrum, but they are each other's complete match. Isaac doesn't believe that he can be what Cora needs in a partner and lover because he is so entrenched in survival mode, but Cora brings lightness and support to his dull world.
The title of the book perfectly explains the story: Isaac believing that he only deserves one good thing in his life - his son - and Cora convincing him that he deserves nothing but good things. However, their relationship is not one-sided. Isaac brings Cora comfort, support, normalcy, and heartfelt love. He is the one person in her life besides her family that truly wants her for the amazing person she is inside rather than her fame, success, and fortune. With her usual talent and grace, Shea tackles the sensitive subject of Autism and special needs, and I wanted to wrap Isaac and his son in a warm hug throughout the story. I see the potential for future books in a series with Isaac's siblings, so I am hoping that we have not seen the last of this amazing couple.
The book is told in the alternating points of view style, and Tim Paige and Lessa Lamb are the perfect choice for Isaac and Cora. I am very familiar with Tim Paige from other romance series, and he is a talented voice actor. I am not as familiar with Lessa Lamb, but she is equally skilled in the romance genre. They both deliver a flawless performance, and I could feel the chemistry between them as the story progressed.

Attorney Garrett Goodlove thought that after his firm brought in a multi-million-dollar settlement, the depression he'd been fighting would disappear. That didn't happen. Because he no longer has to struggle to keep Goodlove and Shek afloat, he has too much time to obsess over his moods. When a new client brings in an envelope labelled "Open only if something happens to me", Goodlove puts it in the firm's safe and goes back to neglecting his practice. But when the client disappears, Goodlove knows he must overcome his problem and take charge. But beating depression is hard.

A well-titled story.........
Revisado: 10-28-20
Forgotten Evidence is the fourth entry in the Goodlove Shek Series, and I believe it is best enjoyed as part of the series. I am a legal thriller junkie, so I will listen to almost any of them, but this series has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. Each case that the law firm handles involves a more unique and sometimes bizarre set of circumstances than the last. Even more importantly, the members of Goodlove and Shek's legal team and family always prove even more interesting and unique. Garrett Goodlove is a middle-aged attorney with two grown children, one a partner at his law firm and the other a freelance photographer with severe bi-polar disorder. Garrett struggles with chronic depression, and he is the twin of a sister born deaf, so everybody in the family uses ASL. Garrett is married to his younger law partner, his legal secretary is 80+ years old, and his investigator is a retired female cop in her sixties. Can you imagine a more eclectic cast of characters? The amazing part of all of this is the seamless way they get along and support each other throughout the series, and Macy writes in such a way to make me feel a part of this dynamic family.
In Forgotten Evidence, Macy has surpassed his always dependable ability to entertain me. While struggling with depression, Garrett struggles to stay involved in his law practice when he meets his newest client, Dr. Arthur Toth. The doctor specializes in the study of amnesia, and he delivers a mysterious letter with instructions to hold it in confidence until something happens to him. Garrett instantly feels a kinship with Arthur and offers to give him surfing lessons during their conversation. Thus, Garrett begins to develop a casual friendship with this odd but brilliant doctor until Arthur suddenly disappears only to reappear days later with amnesia and charged with the murder of a colleague. The legal team of Goodlove and Shek needs to ride to the rescue, discover the secret behind the mysterious letter and save Arthur from conviction. As a final whiplash, when the trial is concluded, Mr. Macy blew me away with a surprise twist that still has me shaking my head in amazement and appreciation. I can hardly wait to see what Macy has in store for this intrepid team next.
Nick Sullivan narrates all the books in the series, and he is the perfect choice for Garrett Goodlove's irreverent personality. Sullivan is a true professional and delivers a flawless performance with perfect timing and emphasis. Sullivan has long been one of my favorite narrators, and I love that Macy and he collaborate to offer such a fun and engrossing listen.

Two strong people struggling to accept love.......
Revisado: 10-28-20
Romancing My Love is part of the overall Love in Bloom Series by Melissa Foster, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Of all the books in this series that I have read this far, this one had the least amount of interaction between characters from previous books. However, I still felt the usual sense of love and importance of family that is the underlying theme of all Melissa Foster books. In Romancing My Love, we have two completely stubborn, independent people used to caring for others at the expense of themselves. Rebecca gave up her job, her apartment and pretty much her entire life for 10 months to nurse her mother while she died of cancer. Pierce Braden is a millionaire resort owner and the oldest in his family, used to taking care of his younger siblings from a young age. Although Rebecca has lost everything and is living in her car when she meets Pierce, she has a fierce spirit and is determination to succeed without any outside help. From the minute he meets her, all Pierce longs to do is wrap her in the safety of his arms and make all her problems disappear. You can see the problem with them falling in love.
Luckily, with her usual grace and style, Melissa Foster allows Pierce to slowly open Rebecca's mind to the possibility of accepting his love, and he learns to understand that her independence doesn't mean that she doesn't need and love him. I enjoyed watching the push and pull between Rebecca and Pierce, and I was worried several times that they wouldn't overcome their differences, but that just made me cherish their HEA even more. The heat level in the story is high, and Foster writes her intimate scenes with the perfect combination of spicy and sweet. The entire Braden crew arrives towards the end of the book, and it was their welcoming love towards her that sealed the deal for Rebecca and Pierce. I am, as always, anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
As much as you can depend on Melissa Foster to deliver a wonderful story, you can equally depend on an enchanting narration by BJ Harrison. He narrates most of the books in this series, and he has truly become the voice of the Braden Family for me. His delivery is smooth, his performance is flawless, and his portrayal of the emotions of the story is heartfelt. The combination of Harrison and Foster is a guaranteed hit.

Librarian Callie Barnes has visions of reading and relaxing - and maybe having a few too many drinks on her girls' weekend away. Her hopes are crushed when her friends pull into a dude ranch instead of a spa, and she refuses to say longer than one night. That is...until she realizes the ranch is owned by sinfully sexy, and dangerously rugged, Wes Braden - the subject of her late-night fantasies.

Opposites attract in the most delightful way......
Revisado: 09-27-20
Fated for Love is part of the Love in Bloom series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. This book features two complete opposites, Callie, a librarian and a city-girl in all ways, and Wes, a rancher and a wilderness guide. Although Wes has been visiting Callie's library for several weeks, and she is incredibly attracted to him, she knows that he would never be interested in a bookworm like her. It isn't until her friends sabotage her with a girls weekend at Wes's dude ranch that she begins to see possibilities. Wes has also enjoyed his visits with Callie, but he doesn't give a relationship with her a serious thought until she opens up to him while he guides her in various outdoor adventures. Look out because once they decide to give into their chemistry, the passion and feelings beginning flowing, and the listeners are treated to some beautiful and sexy steamy moments.
Wes and Callie basically fall in love with each other over a weekend, and that would normally seem impossible. However, that is the talent of Melissa Foster. She can make any couple falling in love not only plausible but completely believable and enviable. As with all her books, there is a deep sense of family and friendship, and this leads to some terrific interactions with secondary characters. The hiccup in the road to Callie and Wes's HEA is short-lived and easily resolved, and that aspect in another favorite of mine with a Melissa Foster book. I don't care for drama for drama's sake. I just finished Fated for Love, but I am already excited to start my next book in this amazing series.
BJ Harrison narrates most of the books in the Love in Bloom series, and he is an incredibly talented narrator. He differentiates well between male and female characters, and he adds the perfect amount of emotion to his delivery to portray the feeling without going over the top. His performance is flawless, and the sound quality of the recording is perfect. This is a highly professional and enjoyable audiobook experience.

Heart racing suspense and mind-bending twists.....
Revisado: 09-03-20
Fatal Deception is the fifth book in this mystery series featuring two Seattle homicide detectives, Tess Richards and Blake Stephenson. Although I have read the other books in the series, I think Fatal Deception could be enjoyed as a standalone. The book grabbed me from the opening scene with a young woman running away from some unknown threat. The author continued to build the intrigue and suspense from that point. The story is split between three main focuses: Stephenson is investigating the hit and run murder of a young woman, Richards goes undercover to join a suspected cult, and Richards and Stephenson navigate their personal relationship. The author skillfully uses foreshadowing to build the eeriness factor and ties all three sub-plots into one seamless story. I have loved reading all the books in the series, but I think this one was the most addictive, and I listened to it straight through in one sitting. I was certain that I knew what was happening from the beginning, but I guessed completely wrong in the end.
The excitement of the mystery portion of the story is obviously very important, but one of the main reasons that I am such a fan of these books is the wonderful character development. Tess and Blake have become very real people to me, and I love that they continue to grow individually and together in each book. My heart broke for Tess as she struggled with panic attacks and flashbacks from her brother's murder investigation in a previous book, and, as a fellow suffer of panic attacks, I thought the author captured her experiences expertly. Although there was some tension between them in the beginning of the book, Blake was amazingly supportive of Tess and continues to prove himself the perfect match for someone as tough outside yet fragile inside as Tess. I am already excited to see what the author has in store for this couple in the next book.
Marcio Catalano and Veronica Pace narrate all the books in this series, and I appreciate that continuity. They perform in the duet style, with Catalono reading all the male parts and Pace reading all the female parts. It takes great skill to handle that smoothly, and these two narrators succeed. Their timing is perfect, their delivery is flawless, and the sound recording is of professional quality. I highly recommend Fatal Deception for all fans of mystery audiobooks.

Granny Apples steals the show again...............
Revisado: 08-27-20
Ghost of a Gamble is the fourth book in this cozy mystery series featuring Emma, a medium, and her constant ghost companion, Granny Apples. Although the story can be read as a standalone, I recommend listening to the series in order for the most enjoyment. In Ghost of a Gamble, Emma and Granny head to Las Vegas to investigate a suspected ghost living in a former showgirl's house at the request of Emma's friend and fellow psychic, Milo. Emma quickly learns that the showgirl, Dolly, is Milo's mother and that she has a very interesting and flamboyant past. Said past roars into present day when one of Dolly's former associates, a mafioso, is killed and Dolly disappears. Emma and Granny Apples are aided in their adventures with their usual cohorts of Milo, his girlfriend Susan, Emma's boyfriend Phil and a friend from book three, Quinn.
I am not an expert, but I thought that the author did an amazing job of recreating the feel of Las Vegas in the 1960's, and I loved learning more about organized crime and how it operated before modern technology came into play. The mystery kept me guessing and had a surprise twist at the end that resulted in some pretty breath catching moments. As always, Granny Apples and her spunky, feisty personality give this book that something special that sets this series apart from and above the normal cozy mystery fare. I was very disappointed by Emma's behavior in book three and nervous about how the series would proceed with book four, especially with the arrival of Quinn mid-way through the story. However, I should have just chill-axed (per Granny Apples), since I was impressed and pleased with how the author resolved the situation. I look forward to more of Granny and Emma's shenanigans in future books.
Sandra Murphy narrates all the books in this series, and she is an amazing performer. I love her portrayal of all the characters but especially of Granny Apples. Murphy differentiates clearly between all the characters, and she adds the perfect tone and emphasis to highlight every mood of the story. With her smooth, flawless delivery, she enables me to get completely lost in the story, and that is a true gift during these uncertain and stressful times.

Inspires tears and chuckles..............
Revisado: 08-22-20
Story of Love is the novella of the trials and tribulations of Josh and Riley as the attempt to have her dream wedding, and I do mean attempt. Josh and Riley want desperately to have a wedding free from the paparazzi that are determined to make a media spectacle of their special day. That leads to the first of what will be a round of frustrations for Riley, Josh and the entire Braden crew. Think helpful, decorating little ones, naked bridesmaids, mothers gone wild, and anatomically interesting pancakes to name a few. This story had me laughing so hard at certain points, and I fell in love with a character, Charlotte, that I hope will be featured in a future Melissa Foster book. Throughout the entire book, Josh and Riley kept turning to each other for support and comfort, and I have never read of a couple more in love and devoted to each other. This book was the perfect cap to the delightful Braden series and only whets my appetite for more Melissa Foster romances.
B.J. Harrison narrated Josh and Riley's original story, and he continues to be the perfect choice for a sweet and steamy romance. He has a deep, soothing voice that portrays male and female roles with equal skill. His performance is flawless, and he handles the numerous comedic moments in Story of Love with a previously unknown (for me) talent.

Kacey Shea saves the best for last................
Revisado: 08-21-20
Replay is the fourth and final book in this series featuring the famous rock bank 3 Ugly Guys as they find their true loves. Throughout the series, Austin has been the biggest player and the most resistant to commitment, so I was very interested to see how Shea would make him fall. With her usual finesse, she writes the perfect match for Austin in Jayla, the new head of the band's security detail and Austin's high school girlfriend. Although they haven't seen each other in over a decade, and they have both faced many challenges since then, the old connection is instantly reignited. At one point in the story, Jayla states that they have the perfect blend of push and pull, and that is the best possible description of their dynamic.
Austin seems very self-assured and arrogant throughout the series, but he is always offering readers a glimpse of the incredible tender and caring man inside. Wow, when he unleashes his true feelings for Jayla, he is one loving guy. Jayla is perhaps the most kick-ass heroine of the series with her background in law enforcement, her specialty in self-defense, and her unwillingness to take flak from anybody. She also hides a very damaged and vulnerable inside, and I loved watching Austin and Jayla heal each other. As with all the books in the series, the band members provide plenty of comedy, but this book also had an element of mystery and suspense that I found especially enjoyable. I am very sad to say goodbye to 3 Ugly Guys, but the book and the series ends with a touching epilogue that assures me that Trent, Sean,Leighton, Austin and their amazing ladies are still the best kind of family.
As I have said in previous reviews, Jason Clarke is an amazing narrator, and I would listen to anything with his name on it. This was my first exposure to Morae Brehon, and I wasn't sure about her performance at first. However, I quickly grew to love her husky voice, and I cannot imagine a better choice for Jayla's personality. The story is told in alternating, first person narrative (which is my favorite), and these two shine as a team. Combining Kacey Shea's beautiful writing with such skilled talent as Clarke and Brehon makes for a very moving and exciting audiobook that will stay with me long after I write this review.

A sweet little bite of the Bradens................
Revisado: 08-20-20
Promise My Love is the story of Rex Braden and Jade Johnson's wedding, and it's surrounding challenges and dramas. I recommend listening to this novella after reading all the previous books in The Braden's series because Foster brings back all of our favorite couples to attend the wedding. Although I felt that Jade and Rex's story ended with an HEA in Destined for Love, I enjoyed seeing how much their relationship had grown in depth and feeling during their four year engagement. In many of the books in the series, Rex is such a gruff and intimidating character in both size and personality, so I loved watching him melt into a softy for Jade. The story is more sweet than steamy, so it pulls at the heartstrings more than it requires a fan. Little new ground is covered in Promise My Love, but it is the perfect cap to this wonderful series, and I highly recommend it to fans of the series.
B.J. Harrison narrators the majority of the Love in Bloom stories, and I love that continuity. He has a rich, mellow voice that portrays both male and female characters skillfully. My favorite character from Harrison is the Braden patriarch, Hal, but he is equally sexy for all of the Braden men.
