Fascinating story, but narration is annoying
Revisado: 09-22-23
well written and comprehensive account of Ungar. The narrator, however, has some terrible accents and voices for many of the quotes on Ungar. Some are so bad they made me cringe. But, the story is solid.

Historia
Anybody can get lucky. Nobody controls the odds like Billy Walters. Widely regarded as “the Michael Jordan of sports betting,” Walters is a living legend in Las Vegas and among sports bettors worldwide. With an unmatched winning streak of thirty-six consecutive years, Walters has become fabulously wealthy by placing hundreds of millions of dollars a year in gross wagers, including one Super Bowl bet of $3.5 million alone. Competitors desperate to crack his betting techniques have tried hacking his phones, cloning his beepers, rifling through his trash, and bribing his employees.

Hard to understand narration, story is ok though
Revisado: 09-07-23
One of the worst readings I've experienced. Thick Kentucky accent and evident he had to re-record some lines, so the flow is difficult to adjust to. Somewhat interesting story, especially the gambling bets and connections to some of the legendary Las Vegas gamblers. The gambling advice chapters were worthless. Common sense advice with no practical application for the normal person.

Nice Pacino impression ...
Revisado: 08-28-22
Overall this was entertaining but it was annoying at times. It also sounds like Al Pacino is reading his lines.

A Course Called Ireland is the story of a walking-averse golfer who treks his way around an entire country, spending 16 weeks playing every seaside hole in Ireland. Along the way, he searches out his family's roots, discovers that a once-poor country has been transformed by an economic boom, and finds that the only thing tougher to escape than Irish sand traps are Irish pubs.

Historia
The lights are coming down. Frank, Dean, and Sammy are about to take the stage. This is the moment we remember, when Las Vegas became classic. And it was at the Sands. Built in 1952 over the ashes of Hollywood Reporter publisher Billy Wilkerson’s last chance in Las Vegas, the Sands was a collective effort. Underworld figures like Meyer Lansky, Doc Stacher, and Frank Costello provided the cash.

Narrator sounds like a robot. good story though
Revisado: 07-03-22
This is a book I would have rather read than listen to. The narrator sounds like a computer reading a script which is not enjoyable. As for the story it's very interesting about the history of Las Vegas from the fifties through the 1990s.

Great story, bad narration
Revisado: 06-04-22
The narrator is ok most of the time, but I dont know if there was editing or if his pitch just randomly changes, but it is not a consistent voice. hard to listen to at times despite the fascinating story
