Historia
Shana wakes up one morning to discover her little sister in the grip of a strange malady. She appears to be sleepwalking. She cannot talk and cannot be woken up. And she is heading with inexorable determination to a destination that only she knows. But Shana and her sister are not alone. Soon, they are joined by a flock of sleepwalkers from across America, on the same mysterious journey. And like Shana, there are other "shepherds" who follow the flock to protect their friends and family on the long dark road ahead.

Look forward to the sequel
Revisado: 10-19-23
I enjoyed this story and look forward to the sequel. Contrary to what a lot of the negative reviews state, it is not a political novel. There were portions from both liberal and conservative points of view, and those portions can easily be looked past without detracting too much from the story. People should stop being so easily offended. They may find life to be more enjoyable in general. But to each their own, I suppose.
To me, it was about humanity as a whole and the incredible diversity there in. Our place on the planet and the impact we make on it. Technology and our ever growing dependence on it, good and bad. And what happens if all goes to shit.
You know, an apocalyptic novel.

Historia
Audiobook narrator Peter Larson and his wife Hannah head to his hometown of Maple City to help Peter's ailing father and to put a recent tragedy behind them. Though the small, Midwestern town seems like the idyllic place to start afresh, Peter and Hannah will soon learn that evil currents flow beneath its surface. They move into an old farmhouse on the outskirts of town - a house purchased by Peter's father at auction and kept secret until now - and start to settle into their new life. But as Peter sets up his recording studio in a small basement room, disturbing things begin to occur.

More enjoyable than anticipated
Revisado: 08-30-23
When I first started this series (I didn't know it was a series), I didn't think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. The Nightmare Room started off slow, and I thought it would be predictable. By the end, my interest was peaked enough to move on to The Hungry Ones. It was free on Audible at the time, so why not. In my opinion, each book in this series is better than the last, and The Messy Man was the best one by far. Looking back, I never would have guessed these stories would have taken the turns they did. It was all very engaging and thought-provoking.
It's nice that each book picked up where the last left off. I do think it could have been made better with a different narrator, but I can understand an author wanting to narrate for themselves to complete their vision of the story.
All in all, I would definitely recommend the whole series to a friend

Historia
At the outskirts of Maple City sits the Crossroads Motel, a throwback to the days when the motor lodge was king. Two years ago, the motel was the site of an act so brutal that its buildings were left to rot. Jessie Voss, however, sees promise in the Crossroad's bare bones and buys it up, determined to breathe new life into the place. When the Larson family shows up on her doorstep, road-weary and desperate for a break, Jessie offers them lodging, even though her grand opening is still a week away. But the arrival of guests awakens the motel....

Historia
All through the town of Pine Deep, people are having their most precious memories stolen. The monster seems to target the lonely, the disenfranchised, the people who need memories to anchor them to this world. Something is out there. Something cruel and evil is feeding on the memories, erasing them from the hearts and minds of people like Patty and Monk and others.

So glad I didn't listen to the poor reviews
Revisado: 03-01-23
While I haven't finished his entire catalog I have listened to 5 or 6 Jonathan Mayberry titles and enjoyed every one. This one was no different.
After reading reviews saying it was so different or the first that long-time fans didn't like I almost decided to skip it but I'm glad I didn't. I enjoyed the premise and storytelling and, as always, loved Ray Porter's narration.
I did feel the end was a bit rushed but it did tie everything up so I'm not mad at it

In ghastly harmony with the nightmarish visions of the award-winning writer's novels, these stories blend a lifelong appreciation of horror culture with the grotesque fascinations and childlike terrors that are the author's own.

Revisado: 02-10-22
Perhaps I am jaded, but this was not scary at all. If you are looking for horror look elsewhere.
Otherwise, ok. Narration somewhat droning at times but I was able to power through and finish.
