Revisado: 05-01-25
It's easy to get distracted by the author's wonderful voice and equally wonderful writing style. He wins over the listener immediately. I hope he shares with us his other memoir in this format.

Born into a working-class Glaswegian family in the summer of 1961, TENEMENT KID begins in the district of Springburn, soon to be evacuated in Edward Heath's brutal slum clearances. Leaving school at 16 and going to work as a printers' apprentice, Bobby's rock n roll epiphany arrives like a bolt of lightning shining from Phil Lynott's mirrored pickguard at his first gig at the Apollo in Glasgow.

I didn't know much about the author besides liking his singing and the songs. I feel privileged to have heard him reading his memoir. Looking forward to hearing part 2 should it emerge. A true believer and a warm person.

Historia
Boy George's compelling storytelling shines a light on his encounters with legendary figures like David Bowie, Prince, and Madonna, providing an intimate peek into the music industry's glittering world. Humor, sarcasm, and signature style are brought to this explosive and honest account of Boy George's life as a child growing up in sixties London and coming out to his Irish Catholic family. Hear his account of his exploration of his sexuality through the hedonism of the seventies (the glam rock and punk rock revolution that birthed Culture Club) and his ultimately embracing who he is today.

Historia
Over 1,100 years before William the Conqueror became the King of England after the Battle of Hastings, Julius Caesar came, saw, and conquered part of “Britannia”, setting up a Roman province with a puppet king in 54 BCE. In the new province, the Romans eventually constructed a military outpost overlooking a bridge across the River Thames. The new outpost was named Londinium, and it covered just over two dozen acres. By the second century CE, Londinium was a large Roman city, with tens of thousands of inhabitants using villas, palaces, a forum, temples, and baths.

The Jutes are still a mystery but this brings together what’s available to us nicely. The narrator has a voice similar to that of Professor Tim Wilson.

Historia
For Lee "Kix" Thompson, life is about having fun - even when times are tough. Growing Out of It is the tale of one "nutty boy" not really growing out of it at all. From getting up to no good as a teenager to his many musical (mis)adventures in the 1970s, Lee's memoir of his formative years captures his enduring love for his north London stomping ground, where he first met the other members of Madness.

Suggs is one of pop music's most enduring and likeable figures. Read by the author himself with the assured style and wit of a natural raconteur, this hugely entertaining and insightful autobiography takes you from his colourful early life on a North London council estate, through the heady early days of Punk and 2-Tone, to the eighties, where Madness became the biggest selling singles band of the decade.

Beautiful voice sets record straight
Revisado: 04-17-23
YouTube’s algorithm gave me Cynthia Lennon’s version of “Those Were The Days.” A great singing voice. She doesn’t mince words in this book and hearing her lovely voice explain her side of what happened is essential. It’s as if learning about all these things for the first time. Don’t forget to listen to the short interview at the end.

Historia
The result of this Roger Daltrey's introspection is a remarkable memoir, instantly captivating, funny and frank, chock-full of well-earned wisdom and one-of-kind anecdotes from a raucous life that spans a tumultuous time of change in Britain and America. Born during the air bombing of London in 1944, Daltrey fought his way (literally) through school and poverty and began to assemble the band that would become The Who while working at a sheet metal factory in 1961.

Thank you, Mr. Daltrey

My mother was watching ‘The Kids Are Alright’ and pointed at Roger and said, “He’s the responsible one.” At the time, I wondered how she’d concluded that. It was a pleasure to hear Roger read his story to us. There are plenty of surprises. I also sense there are several more books he could write, autobiographical or otherwise. He’s also got an engaging speaking voice.
