Historia
While researching the toxic and addictive properties of sugar for Fat Chance, Robert Lustig made an alarming discovery - our pursuit of happiness is being subverted by a culture of addiction and depression from which we may never recover. Dopamine is the "reward" neurotransmitter that tells our brains we want more; yet every substance or behavior that releases dopamine in the extreme leads to addiction. Serotonin is the "contentment" neurotransmitter that tells our brains we don't need any more; yet its deficiency leads to depression.

Loved it, but has a few things I disagree with.
Revisado: 06-04-18
Awesome book. It's a great primer on how the brain works in relation to pleasure and happiness. I learned a lot about neuroscience, dopamine, serotonin, addiction, depression, and mental health. I learned why addiction and obesity is running rampart these days and what we can do about it. I learned about how abusing sugar/drugs/sex/gambling/etc. is all the same thing as far as our brain chemistry is concerned. I learned about how "pleasure" is marketed to us by corporations as the key to happiness, but it's not - it's actually the key to destruction. I learned about ways to be truly happy and to recognize things that claim to provide happiness but lie.
My only issue with this book is that Dr. Lustig confuses what he calls giving "power to the "people", with what he is actually advocating: "power to the Government" which is not the same thing.

In a bold act of conscience, Republican Senator Jeff Flake takes his party to task for embracing nationalism, populism, xenophobia, and the anomalous Trump presidency. The book is an urgent call for a return to bedrock conservative principle and a cry to once again put country before party.

A "conservative" book written by a progressive.

Any additional comments?
When the author describes himself, John McCain, Paul Ryan and other progressive Republicans as "true" conservatives who are like Barry Goldwater, you can pretty much stop reading there. That's so absurd it's borderline hysterical.
This book also accuses President Trump of being racist, bad tempered, and incompetent. He also gives support to the media that attacks Trump and conservatives.

Historia
Despite lacking any experience with motorcycle gangs, Charles Falco infiltrated three of America's deadliest biker gangs: the Vagos, Mongols, and Outlaws. In separate investigations that spanned years and coasts, Falco risked his life, suffering a fractured neck and a severely torn shoulder, working deep under cover to bring violent sociopaths to justice.

Terrible - not as good as other books like it
Revisado: 04-18-16
Over-dramatized and exaggerated stories about motorcycle clubs. You'll start sympathizing with these so called "gangs". You'll also feel embarrassed on how much man power and money our government spent on throwing just a handful of small time dead-beats into jail for short sentences. I feel sad for the undercover agents that had to endure the pain for these failed investigations, as well as the club members who were unjustly harassed.

Mark R. Levin has made the case, in numerous New York Times best-selling books - Men in Black, Liberty and Tyranny, and Ameritopia - that the principles undergirding our society and governmental system are unravelling. In The Liberty Amendments, he turns to the founding fathers and the constitution itself for guidance in restoring the American republic.

Great book. The info in this book will open up your eyes to a lot of things, and give you all the ammo you need to debate any big-government progressive/statist/communist/etc. on a variety of important topics.

Think and Grow Rich is the number-one inspirational and motivational classic for individuals who are interested in furthering their lives and reaching their goals by learning from important figures in history. The text read in this audiobook is the original 1937 edition written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by Andrew Carnegie - and while it has often been reproduced, no updated version has ever been able to compete with the original.

A must-read book about many of the secrets of life
Revisado: 03-21-13
The positive reviews are right-on... This is a must-read book for those interested in how life works. You'll learn about how people work, and keys to a better life.
My only minor-complaint is that some of the scientific data is out-of-date, such as the suggested "scientifically supported" existence of Telepathy, and Ether, which have since both been proven to not exist. But if you can look past those errors, this is an amazing book.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

A good book, but could have been better
Revisado: 01-31-13
I did enjoy this book thoroughly, but I wish it spent more time on Science and less time on Einstein's personal and romantic relationships. Sometimes in the book I felt myself wanting to skip forward to topics that interested me more.
Also, I wish the book would have expanded further upon Einstein's views on politics. The book says that Einstein considered himself a Socialist, but that he valued Individual Freedom over anything else. Those two political philosophies are very much as odds with each other, and I would have liked an explanation on how Einstein married the two.

On this pitiless world, the indomitable spirit of mankind still breathes in Lieutenant David Valentine.

No plot
Revisado: 11-02-11
This book sounded great on the surface: A post-apocalyptic civilization battling the forces of evil. Sadly, it greatly disappointed.
The book is pretty much devoid of any plot; it simply follows an emotionless character around on his mostly random, boring journey. The author must certainly be from the Midwest farming communities, because he spends so much time talking about livestock and horses. The dialog feels forced and not how real people would speak.
I found the narration irritating, mostly because the narrator is not suited for this genre. He sounds too nice and "goodie", and takes away any creepiness or suspense this book might otherwise have.
If you are looking for a modern vampire/horror type of series to get into, I highly suggest the Joe Pitt Casebooks over this series.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

Uninspired story, poor performance.
Revisado: 09-15-11
The simple story spends most of its time bashing men, making most of the male characters so ignorant that their characters are not realistic or believable. The character of the father in the story is particularly laughable. Also, the performance is done by a nasally, crabby sounding woman, which enhances the male-bashing atmosphere of the book.
The only reason I gave the book two stars and not one, is that historical aspects covering the history of the Congo was interesting.

Painfull
Revisado: 04-25-11
I wanted to read this since it's considered a classic. However, I ignored the reviews that recommended the abridged version over the unabridged. I wish I have chosen the abridged. There was so much of this book that detracted from the story, that it made much of the book very boring and painful to get through. Also, this version is terribly narrated. He does a god job with Ishmael, and Ahab. But nearly all the other characters are read like nails on a chalkboard.
