So I read this book before, but unfortunately I didn't retain much because I tried to read it while on vacation with a 3-year-old. I knew it was coming out in audiobook format so I just waited because I enjoy listening to audiobooks so much. And I'm so glad that I did. The narrators did such an incredible job with a characters and it made the listening experience so much more enjoyable. The characters are so endearing, you can't help but love them. And oh Beau... You're so awkward but watching you grow is so much fun. I absolutely loved Meep and how she battled with her standoffishness and her desire to help those around her. The world building is very interesting and pulls you right in as the characters discover right along with the reader / listener. This is definitely one you'll need to listen to a few times and on the second round you'll pick up hints you didn't catch before. This is definitely a rereading kind of book, and I can't wait for the rest of the series.

Historia
I was stolen away and held prisoner in Italy, a bride for a mafia king's only heir. Except I'm no innocent, and it's the king himself—the man called il Diavolo—who appeals to me in sinful ways I never dreamed. Fausto's wickedness draws me in, his power like a drug. And when the devil decides he wants me, I'm helpless to resist him—even if it means giving myself to him, body and soul. He may think he can control me, but this king is about to find out who's really the boss.

I tried, but I couldn't get into it. I'm all about the slow burn, but the characters were wildly unlikable. I love me and alpha asshole, but this guy really sucked. The female main character was obnoxiously annoying as well. I get her independence and her want to do things her own way, and while I understand 18-year-olds still need to figure themselves out, her complete lack of self-awareness was off-putting. This was my first foray into this author's work, I don't think I'll return.

I have been struggling to find some spicy romance novels and Sara DELIVERED. I absolutely loved everything about this book. So often in spicy romance novels, the characters are kind of flat and there's more focus on amping up the space rather than building characters and a good story. Sara manages to craft interesting, likable, but flawed characters so we can fall in love with along with the protagonist. And of course the spice is very spicy 🔥

I very easily was rooting for Charlie the entire time. She's the exact kind of quirky girl that I love to see in books because she's actually fleshed out in her whole personality isn't just being the quirky girl who gets swept up in the romance with a rich dude. She has passion, conviction, a fierce loyalty to those she loves. One of my favorite parts about the book was reading about her interactions with her sister, Sophie. That really showcased just how dedicated Sara was to crafting a character that was layered, nuanced, and easy to love.
I previously read a review where one of the reviewers was disgruntled that Charlie's sister was revealed to be trans. while transphobia disgusts me on a regular day, that really struck me as a truly despicable thing to take away from the book. Sophie is sweet, forced to grow up too soon like every other trans kid, and Charlie's fierce, limitless love and protection for her little sister is something that makes the story so much more rich. I loved that Charlie's devotion to her family was unwavering, and I'm very glad that Sarah chose to craft characters who saw Sophie for who she truly is, encouraging her to be who she is. the same way that I love that Charlie got to grow into herself, got to accept and love herself exactly who she was, with the help of the man she loves.
I loved it all, I'm definitely reading everything this author puts out ❤️
