Let Down
Revisado: 10-22-22
A lot of fluff amongst pretty basic information. Much material on things (points of interest in author's country and a recipe for chutney) that detract from the thrust of the book. Overall it was mildly inspiring. Listen to it (if you must) at 2x the speed and you will get what little it has to offer.

After a health scare, 77-year-old Barbara goes to convalesce in the sleepy Somerset village of Winsleigh Green with her sister, Pauline, who is now a widow. Excellent book for those in USA
Revisado: 04-16-22
If misery loves company, then this is a great book for its general target audience. It was both comforting and distressing to hear the stories of the people all in the same boat. There is a wealth of resources in this book but, sadly, they are only useful for readers in the US. Still, for those in that blessed country, it deserves 5 stars. For the rest of us, however, it proves to add to our desperation. I think this book should be required reading for parents with teens and the teens themselves so that they can prepare for this period in their lives whilst they can and before they enter their 50s (or even 40s) when things can go life-alteringly wrong.

Better to read than listen
Revisado: 01-04-22
This is not a book you can listen to and benefit from. It really requires study in order for it to be helpful. Some books just don't lend themselves well to audio format and this is one of them. I returned it and bought the Kindle version. It's a very helpful book and well-worth studying and applying.

Listen With Pen and Paper to Hand
Revisado: 06-29-20
This is not something to listen to whilst engaged in other activities or when someone is apt to interrupt. Though I gave this listen my full attention, I often rewound to ponder many points he makes. Parts and themes not directly addressed by Lewis, would come to mind and I found myself making mental notes to follow these trains of thought after I finished the book. But the mental notes accumulated and I regretted not writing them down but was too caught up in the revelations that came with each "page" that I could not bring myself to stop grab paper and pen and begin again. I listened to this in one go knowing full well I would listen again in order to let it seep deeper into my understanding and to glean to the very last morsel.
I was disappointed that he had a faulty understanding of the doctrine of total depravity and rejects the doctrine based on his erroneous understanding. The proper understanding would have supported His presentation and would have addded a very rich dimension to the feast he lays out.
I was also dismayed to hear him say that we do not know how many humans were created and lived in the garden before The Fall. Yes, Clive, we do. The Bible tells us explicitly that there were only two.
I am going to listen to this again today armed with pen and paper. I am a mature (and maturing) Christian and had come to a point where many of the issues he discusses such as the reality of pain and suffering (and so many other topics he addresses) were eroding my faith and consequently my mental and spiritual health. This book is breathing new life and hope into my struggling spirit. I look forward to thanking CS when I get to heaven!

Positve thinking will get you everywhere
Revisado: 06-18-19
This guy takes scripture and twists it to his own purposes. Health and wealth gospel and The Secret all wrapped up in one bs offering. According to this book then, the apostles, disciples and martyrs all got it wrong and missed out on the life God intended they should have because they didnt think positively. Horse mannuer! I returned the book after the second chapter. Phillipians 4:8 is more in line with Stoic philosophy which is TRULY helpful to living an abundantly CHRISTIAN life in this world and is conducive to posessing "the peace that passes understanding." I recommend A Guide to the Good Life by William B Irvine to those who wish to discover how best to live a life in accordance with Phillipians 4:8. I dont recall Irvine's book actually mentioning the verse itself but it does, indeed, show how to live a life in accordance with it!
