Hard Act To Follow
Revisado: 04-12-23
J. R. Ward doesn't disappoint. If I love a series from book one I usually hate drastic world changes over a long series. This series started going that way but over the last 5 books or so I found myself falling in love all over again. this was fabulous. it will be a hard act to follow maybe LW or Nalla will be next.

Historia
At the height of WWII, five idealistic young Americans receive a mysterious letter from the OSS, asking them if they are willing to fight for their country. The men and women from very different backgrounds - a Texan athlete with German roots, an upper-crust son of a French mother and a wealthy businessman, a dirt-poor Midwestern fly fisherman, an orphaned fashion designer, and a ravishingly beautiful female fencer - all answer the call of duty, but each for a secret reason of his or her own. They bond immediately, in a group code-named Dragonfly.

stunning and beautiful read
Revisado: 11-16-22
I usually don't read from this genre but this book was fabulous. I was initially dubious but was quickly sucked on and found myself cheering and rooting for the main characters and even the supporting characters, even the antagonists who were secretly reluctant heroes.

the only reason I'm not giving this book 5 stars is because I'm not as big a fan of American history as I hoped to be.

Historia
With an ailing mother to care for, Lisa Grant takes the first job she can find: research assistant to District Attorney Scott Buchanan. What Lisa expects to be a mind-numbingly boring task turns into anything but when a missing-persons case draws her attention. The details of the case are engrossing: an entire family — father, mother, and two children — disappeared without a trace more than 28 years ago. Except that’s not all: the mother in a photo Lisa finds could be her own twin.

Surprising Disappointment From Karen...
Revisado: 01-30-17
Not even one if my favorite narrators can save this book. I found the actual story incredibly dull of the 13 hours and 25 minutes it felt like all but the last 1 hour 20 minutes was the only tolerable part the rest felt like setup for the end. While setup is important, it should be threaded through the story. Listening to the story felt more like a chore than a pleasure. I expected more from Karen as I usually like her books. Had I been reading this rather than listening I would have likely stopped at the end of the first or second chapter.

The Narrator Distracted Me
Revisado: 11-21-15
First, because I like to know before starting a story, this has a cliffhanger. I did not see it mentioned in the synopsis otherwise I wouldn't have started the book until I determined if I wanted to buy the complete series.
I tried to get into the story but sometimes I didn't know what was happening. The author didn't always successfully convey the situation properly right off.
Now the narrator is another story. I often found myself being distracted away form the story by his cadence. He ended every sentence that wasn't spoken by one of the characters in the same tone of voice. He would be talking normal or slightly higher pitched and then end low. It started driving me crazy after about 10 minutes. I almost didn't finish the book because of it.

Summer Must Listen
Revisado: 07-25-14
The worlds that Julie create are exquisitely layered and complex. It is easy to forget where you are now and get completely lost in the stories. Julie has outdone herself in The Immortal Rules and should be at the top of your must read list this summer.
