Historia
Dostoevsky’s Underground Man is a composite of the tormented clerk and the frustrated dreamer of his earlier stories, but his Notes from the Underground is a precursor of his great later novels and their central concern with the nature of free will. Initially musing on his “sickness” and the detested notion of self-interest, the maladjusted and willful Underground Man turns to a series of incidents from years earlier.

I've read at least 6 of the translators for dostoevsky including this one in 3 versions and. katz is the best in my opinion. His philosphy of translation and deep understanding of Dostoevsky esp with insights from the unstoppable biographer Joseph Frank make him my favorite.

Historia
One of Cardinal Ratzinger's most important and widely read books, this volume is a revised second edition with an improved translation and an in-depth preface by the Cardinal. As he states in the preface, since this book was first published over 30 years ago, many changes and significant events have occurred in the world, and in the Church. But even so, he says he is firmly convinced that his fundamental approach in this book is still very timely and crucial for the spiritual needs of modern man.

I am a fan of the drinker on YouTube so I gave this a shot. Definitely recommend. I have loved early Clancy, Ludlum, Child, and now JL Bourne and Konkoly and this is fairly good on action but really great on character dev and plot continuity, pacing and buildup with payoffs.
Going to get the rest of the series as I get credits to spend. (Only thing that was odd was that a marine having gone to west point -drakes buddy Franklin-instead of just marine ocs or Annapolis.

Bourne does it again
Revisado: 11-24-20
The one author I can listen to straught through and relisten. i hope he writes more. Trilobyte and now remote 5 are fantastic. I've also loved Day by Day armegeddon and Tomorrow War. Great range writed bad ass male and female heroes without agendas. Also great at keeping dumb ass grabby military kidding to a minimum but just enough to give likability. Views of characters are complex and not conventional or cheesyThe action is scinitlating, the plot is always suprising and interesting. I've listened to and have read hundreds of action adventure, military, mystery post apoc, sci fi books and Bourne is my favorite. Konkoly is second but there is no other writer I love so much for action. Please keep up the amazing work. I read a book a day for econ and history etc but when a Bourne comes out it goes to the front of the line.

Historia
Niall Ferguson follows the money to tell the human story behind the evolution of finance, from its origins in ancient Mesopotamia to the latest upheavals on what he calls Planet Finance. Bread, cash, dosh, dough, loot, lucre, moolah, readies, the wherewithal: Call it what you like, it matters. To Christians, love of it is the root of all evil. To generals, it's the sinews of war. To revolutionaries, it's the chains of labor. Niall Ferguson shows that finance is in fact the foundation of human progress.

Revisado: 05-21-19
I'm not on board with eveything Ferguson says but boy does he know how to write. he always has amazing coverage of all topics especially the more arcane areas dealing with Finance and Economica but erudite enough to go in details in culture, law, you name it. He also does it without being needlessly esoteric. Well done, I will start reading all his books now.

Historia
The struggle between the main political parties has been reduced to an unpopularity contest, in which voters hold their noses and sigh as they trudge to the polls. Peter Hitchens explains how and why British politics has sunk to this dreary level - the takeover of the parties and the media by conventional left-wing dogmas which then call themselves 'the centre ground'. The Tory party under David Cameron has become a pale-blue twin of New Labour, offering change without alteration.

Peter and his brother are both in their own ways,
Revisado: 06-10-18
Amazing. I side with Peter on a great deal and found this wildly illuminating.
In particular, the discussion on the demise of railways and the subsiding of motor transport and the subsequent atomization in the UK and the US and the root it is to the worst aspects of social disconnectedness in UK and US society. In this discussion, it shows the ironic connection between the Wendell Berry agrarian yeoman impulse and the granola Jane Jacob's world. I love it when the left and right both like to keep things on a human scale and bring about natural connectedness. I always lament one of my favorite presidents creating the interstate system in the US. I wonder how many of today's ills are atteibutable to it.

Historia
Soccer has been America's Sport of the Future since 1972. The Men in Blazers are two English-born, soccer-obsessed broadcasters who have savored the dizzying growth of the game along with millions of Americans, as if it was a rollicking, sporting telenovela playing out in real life. Written in such a way that fully immerses Americans in the history and culture of the world's game, their Encyclopedia Blazertannica relives the careers of such greats such as George Best, Maradona, Beckham...and Alexi Lalas.
