Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

How to Properly Justify Selfishness
Revisado: 03-21-18
The book reads as your typical ‘white male pig’ with associated references and mental illness - who talks to himself - reflecting on how to be a better, more justified, ‘white male pig’. Mission Successful. Useful philosophically but the guy is still sick. Oink Oink...

Bhikkhu Holding on Desperately to Dogmatic Buddhism
Revisado: 12-24-17
Any translation of the Buddha’s words are appreciated. The Buddha was part of an ascetic trend in the search for religious truth in his time. He comes up with a new and improved method of asceticism, claiming to have received it upon heavenly authority, again, the typical outlook of his time and place. Bhikkhu’s agenda is literalism, becomes he comes from a literal, dogmatic practice of Buddhism. Thus, his agenda in his chapter introductions is to stress that the Buddha is to be endorsed every step of the way - in other words he’s as heavenly as he says he is and anything he speaks is 100% truth. This is not understanding Buddha properly as a historical product of his time/place, and does no one any service to propagate this. In fact, this irrationality is why Buddhism has been stepped on again and again, as if it is always on the run being chased down as easy prey by other religions and politic

READ THIS BOOK!
Revisado: 12-08-17
This book will make you laugh, surprise you, intrigue you, and finally make you cry. A great woman, I’m so happy that she wrote a memoir. She’s was an excellent writer. I couldn’t put the book down. I googled her and discovered her accolades as a writer. I also discovered that she passed away in 2015, suffering from ALS. She was 64 at the time and was able to enjoy the knowledge of her book making it to publication for a few months. Such a good soul, if there’s a Heaven, she’s certainly in it. Her husband is a great man as well. My condolences to the family. God Bless.

SF a Unique Asset
Revisado: 12-05-17
If you’re looking for a book about Rambo this isn’t it. Couch follows SF candidates through their foundational Q course training, and at the end of the book visits with operational ODA’s in Iraq. He gives his brief but important two cents on how we’re doing at the end of the book. Note that language and SERE schools are excluded from the book, the latter being mostly classified. SF are a diverse group, and the crux of their operation is intellectual and social ability. Good book, will give you a good sense of how these guys come up.

Historia
Centuries ago, Spanish conquistadors searching for gold and new lands encountered a group of independent city-states in Mesoamerica. Sophisticated beyond the Spaniards' wildest imaginings, these people were the Aztecs, the Maya, and related cultures that shared common traditions of religion, government, the arts, engineering, and trade. In many ways more advanced than European nations, these societies equaled the world's greatest civilizations of their time.

Before it was a religion, a culture, or even a system of meditation, what was Buddhism? On Buddhism Without Beliefs, celebrated teacher, translator, and former Buddhist monk Stephen Batchelor takes us back to the first years after the Buddha's awakening to reveal the root insights of Buddhism hidden beneath centuries of history and interpretation.

Mostly about Meditation
Revisado: 10-11-17
When I think of Buddhism without beliefs, I think of Buddhism without literalism. I still expect to hear an elaboration upon the eight fold path, buddhist myths, metaphysics, ethics, and so on in addition to meditation. Since the book was mostly about meditation and the self I gave it four stars - four stars due to the missing content - but no less than four stars because Stephen is very informative no matter what aspects of Buddhism he speaks upon. I’m not sorry I read the book although I was a little disappointed that the topics I looked forward to were not there.
P.S. I sincerely hope that western Buddhism does not simply become meditation. There are many socio-political ideas in Buddhism, amongst other functions of religion - the sacred, ritual, morality, tradition, etc - wouldn’t it be just like us Westerners to strip out any commitment to change and extract whatever we can devour for the self alone? Ha!
