Would you try another book from Emma Chase and/or Shane East and Andi Arndt ?

Yes, I would.

Emma Chase is so incredibly hit and miss with me, but the Royally series was really fun and enjoyable. Andi and Shane are great narrators and I've caught some of the other things they have narrated.

What did you like best about this story?

You know, with the book being third in a series, I think I have to say I like happy endings. Getting into a book series means you get emotionally involved with these characters, and that is how it should be.

Have you listened to any of Shane East and Andi Arndt ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It's a middle of the pack - I mean, I think they both have their niche and they work very well in it.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably.

Any additional comments?

You know, I enjoy this series, but this finality left some to be desired for me. I think the biggest issue I had was so much of the story was spent flashing through their time together before Ellie is of age. I think for anyone who read the previous stories, you could draw those lines and even pick up the sparks flying back in the first book of the series.

Overall, though, this is a great series from Emma. It's indulgent and fun, sexy, and something you can just enjoy. Get some wine and settle in.

What made the experience of listening to The Apothecary's Poison the most enjoyable?

In particular, this narrator is one of my favorites on the Audible site. In fact, it's how I came to find this book series in the first place.

Which character – as performed by Marian Hussey – was your favorite?

I have to say that I enjoy her performance of Matt Glass the most. India's voice is non-distinctive and I find her interpretation of "outlaw" voices to be really cartoon-y. But I do enjoy the smooth and confident way she presents Matt's voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

Even though the book isn't officially listed on audible as a "romance" novel, I find myself growing frustrated by the allusions to "love" and feelings on the parts of India and Matt, though there is nothing that furthers those feelings along. At first the angst was enjoyable, but by book three, I feel like I've been watching a teen-drama TV show where the writers are playing games. At this point, something romantic needs to happen or it just will begin to feel silly and boring - this whole "will they / won't they" thing has stopped being exciting.

As far as the plot goes, I don't yet see what this book served aside from the end. There was so much travel and movement in this book that I couldn't always keep up, unless I was listening without doing anything else. Overall, I will rate this book with 4 stars - it's the third of a series so you really must read it, but I hope that the next book will pick up the pace a bit.

I don't mind stories that use tropes as part of their tale. The royally series has done that for sure, but in a most enjoyable way.

I was anxious to have Henry's story as I was so angry at Nicholas at the end of the first book. It did not let me down.

Even though you knew what was going to happen as the story began to unfold, I still hung to every word.

These two narrators are some of my favorites.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I hate to be so blunt about it, but I disliked everyone in this book. I made it only halfway in before I decided to move on to something else. As a "contemporary romance" I didn't like that I was half way into my listen and still dealing with "friends with benefits" and Stanton chasing after Jenny. FWB is a fun line to play into a romance, but after that long, I just really couldn't take anymore. I could not relate to any of the characters. I always felt like Sophia was looking down on Stantons "humble roots" and that he was too stupid to see what was going on infront of his face. Don't get me started on Jenny - getting married to a dude and not even MENTIONING it to the man who is the father of your child? NOPE.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something else.

How could the performance have been better?

As far as the narration goes, I really enjoyed the male narrator, Jason. His voice was smooth and cool, it reminded me a lot of Matthew McConaughey in the movie A Time to Kill. He was easy to listen to, and I felt like his cadence and approach meshed with the character. But the female narrator, Charlotte. Wow. I am from the rural south, the same kinds of farms and fields that Stanton grew up on, and the southern accent from this narrator was so bad, it was downright offensive. Stop using old episodes of the Squidbillies and Dukes of Hazzard to emulate a "southern accent".

Any additional comments?

All in all, I felt really let down with this book. I've been very engaged in the Royally series and so I felt like anything from Emma Chase was a win-win. I wish I had better things to say about Overruled.

What did you love best about Royally Screwed?

This book really manages to create the feelings that an old fairy tale would. I found myself feeling warm and happy throughout it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Royally Screwed?

I thought the relationship between Nicholas and Henry was beautiful.

Have you listened to any of Andi Arndt and Shane East ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first and I enjoyed the narrators very much.

Any additional comments?

The only thing I didn't like was the ending. I was hoping for something else - something less... dramatic. I won't make spoilers but it just didn't seem right for it to end that way, especially for Henry. But over all, it was a really great book and perfect for someone who needs that "TV Romance" kind of love.
