Historia
The American buffalo-our nation's official mammal-is an improbable, shaggy beast that has found itself at the center of many of our most mythic and sometimes heartbreaking tales. The largest land animals in the Western Hemisphere, they are survivors of a mass extinction that erased ancient species that were even larger. For nearly 10,000 years, they evolved alongside Native people who weaved them into every aspect of daily life; relied on them for food, clothing, and shelter; and revered them as equals.

a story that needs to be told.
Revisado: 11-30-24
I am ashamed to admit that I was unaware of this story beyond generalities. As I learned more about it, I felt a growing sense of shame to be associated with this country because of what transpired. I listened intently and reflected on the story as it unfolded with such rich detail and information. It's appalling what we did to the American Indians, and I now have a better understanding of the plight of the American buffalo as well. I feel embarrassed to be part of the human race and urge everyone to become aware of this history. If we cannot prevent it from happening again, we should at least recognize our past and feel a sense of guilt as history inevitably repeats itself.

Historia
At the dawn of the 20th century, a great confidence suffused America. Isaac Cline was one of the era's new men, a scientist who believed he knew all there was to know about the motion of clouds and the behavior of storms. The idea that a hurricane could damage the city of Galveston, Texas, where he was based, was to him preposterous, "an absurd delusion." It was 1900, a year when America felt bigger and stronger than ever before. Nothing in nature could hobble the gleaming city of Galveston, then a magical place that seemed destined to become the New York of the Gulf.

Impeccable!!!!! Nothing more to say. Outrageously well written, with an audio performance worthy if an award.

Historia
When Ball Four was published in 1970, it created a firestorm. Bouton was called a Judas, a Benedict Arnold and a “social leper” for having violated the “sanctity of the clubhouse.” Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn tried to force Bouton to sign a statement saying the book wasn’t true. Ballplayers, most of whom hadn’t read it, denounced the book. It was even banned by a few libraries. Almost everyone else, however, loved Ball Four.

stupendous
Revisado: 08-05-22
I don't think anyone can argue that at least this is an interesting book. Perhaps, as many say, it is a great book.. Furthermore, it very well might be a classic book for the ages. All of that said, when you add to it that Jim Bouton was the narrator, you have what amounts to be something that's really exquisite, and nearly indescribable. With his inflection and emotion in his tone, it adds texture and another level to its impact. Really great stuff

Historia
"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.
