Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Good story with complex storyline

I enjoyed reading this although some parts were more detailed than I could follow at first. They all came together in the end but found me wanting more.

Good read for WW 2 history buffs
Revisado: 09-05-22
Liked the author's style of writing dual characters interweaving the story with the present. Not sure that it represents adults favorably but not an issue for the storytelling.

Interesting characters, well paced.
Revisado: 07-08-22
Crime investigation with human relationships mixed in. I found this book held my attention and other than the story line being somewhat predictable, the entry of plot lines around family relationships and drug/ alcohol abuse kept it entertaining and real. The graphic nature of crimes as they were being committed bothered me a bit. First time reading this author and would read their books in the future. overall entertaining reading.

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

Interesting tale woven around multiple characters
Revisado: 04-29-22
Although I struggled at times to keep characters and their individual stories straight, I loved how multiple tales were interwoven and eventually came to their conclusions.

interesting story
Revisado: 02-26-22
Overall I liked the story although I struggled with it at times. it seemed as if there would almost be resolution of the case and then the story would wander again. I figured out early on how Abby's sister had died and was puzzled that this storyline wasn't solved earlier. Always enjoy the three pines characters and especially Gamache.

Good basic story but a little irregular in pacing.
Revisado: 02-09-22
I enjoyed the book but found its rhythm irregular. Some chapters really flowed and others seemed to wander. Overall an interesting story with well built characters. Ending was somewhat abrupt with some aspects of the storyline not resolved (Fin's ? relationship with Tori, other black officers, his boss?)

Enjoyed the overall story
Revisado: 01-12-22
I found this book interesting but difficult to follow initially with its dual timelines. The characters were well developed, the storyline confusing at first but all brought together at the end. Not sure the piece about Emily added much to the overall story.
