Susan Erickson is still the worst reader

I have read or listen to every VI Warshawski book and always look forward to a new one. Unfortunately, I thought that this one did not ring true to the wonderful character that Sara Paretsky has developed through the years. I found the book to be convoluted and relied too much on coincidences.

I look forward to the next one. I am hopeful that it will be read by someone other than Susan Erickson. The original reader was so much better.

Very disappointing

This was predictable, somewhat boring, and basically just a romance story. I have never read a romance novel and didn’t understand that that’s what this was. I relied upon the fact that Mindy Kaling had chosen it. I was very disappointed.

I am a V.I. fan; I have read all her books, and over time, I have felt a slow decline in the story lines, which was exacerbated by the narrator. I can’t stand the current narrator. But this latest book was so over the top that it was ridiculous. I was so disappointed.

More cliches than a country music song

It is hard to decide whether the story or the performance was worse. It was predictable and clichéd. However, what made it worse was the ridiculous way in which it was narrated. The main narrator was very good. It was the insertions of conversations by various other individuals that was terrible. The worst was the low and somber way in which they recited the words to the songs rather than singing them.

Wonderful

This was a nostalgic and joyful romp through some of the funniest movies around. Hearing how Mel brooks became Mel Brooks was delightful. It was a spectacular break from the downfall of Democracy and the American way.

Ridiculous

I love Stacy Abrams but this book was ludicrous. I don’t understand hot it was published.

Overall it was worth the read

Found myself singing Woody Guthrie’s Pastures of Plenty wherever I listened. The description of life during the dustbowl was so vivid that one could almost taste the dust. The only fault I found was I thought that as the book went on the story became a little saccharine.

I can’t believe II listened to the whole thing

Basically, the story was predictable and somewhat saccharine. The worst part was the terrible accent is read are used when they weren’t speaking in their own normal accent. In particular, Simon Slater’s attempt at an American female came out like Mike Myers doing coffee talk. It was truly awful.

Well I loved all three volumes of crazy Rich Asians, apparently enough was enough. The story was silly, overblown, irrelevant my detailed and in the end insufficient.
