Historia
Animal scientists have long considered domestic livestock to be too dumb to know how to eat right, but the lifetime research of animal behaviorist Fred Provenza and his colleagues has debunked this myth. Their work shows that when given a choice of natural foods, livestock have an astoundingly refined palate, nibbling through the day on as many as fifty kinds of grasses, forbs, and shrubs to meet their nutritional needs with remarkable precision.

Love the book, but as mentioned by another reviewer, the topic of nutrition/nourishment is not tied back into the concluding chapters. I do appreciate the concept of spiritual and metaphysical “nourishment” but expected more concrete conclusions and strategy about both human and livestock nutrition and grazing.
Also, as mentioned, the chapters are all abruptly cut short for some reason. This seems to be an annoying audio quality control issue. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Otherwise maybe just get the kindle or paperback versions.
Regardless of all that, I really enjoyed listening to the author narrate his own book, and I imagined hearing wisdom filled stories being told to me by a grandfather elder figure, of which there are far too few in our world today. Thanks Fred for sharing your wisdom with us!

Historia
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Great book.

A great read for anyone interested in understanding the connection between cultural and generational “trauma,” nervous system patterning, and human disease (both physical and psychological, or is there even a difference?).
An impressive and well written culmination of Gabor’s life work.
