Awed!
Revisado: 05-14-23
This is hands down the best book I have ever read. Thank you Densie Webb for a gripping story on so many levels.
Paradox ensues: a health nut is bitten by failing liver while a healthy youth falls. Is the traumatic message that condoms sometimes fail or the rapist of financial power and prestige got away with more than we knew?
This book MOVES. It is jam packed with events of everyday family life we may all relate to. There are no lags or slow spots like almost every book I have ever read.
I finished this book the day before Mother’s Day. How apropos. Melancholy and life goes on, just like reality. Thank you again, Densie and crew♥️

This story was an eye opener of gangster work for me, who has never been privy. The authors handle on vocabulary needs to be acknowledged- phenomenal in words I have never heard! This author is amazing in mood, theme, character, setting… you name it!

I found it draggy, repeat phrases, repeat words too often. Could have woven in more events, details, “beef” so to speak.

Crash, the end

Drags on until it drops off to end it. Quite predictable, corny and sometimes inappropriate and displaced fowl language. I didn’t like it, sorry.

A very good story many can relate to in their life
Revisado: 07-10-21
Good story. In my opinion, The beginning of the book labors in creating characters and their relationships, to the point I came very close to giving up on continuing on.
The heartfelt moments are also well overdone and sometimes grueling.
I like the story and all of it caveats of personal life experiences. I believe many readers will be able to relate to teen drinking and driving and the consequences, the price of honesty in the midst of law, grief and bitterness and healing.

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Amazingly interesting and great personalities
Revisado: 04-21-21
The story subject matter would naturally NOT have interested me. However, the motion picture action keeps suspense up front as well as the personalities evolving through the characters. It’s melancholy but often so is life itself.
Again the narrator should be nominated for an academy award for her performance in projecting the tone, dialect/accents and personalities of each character throughout the book.
The interview at the end with the author and narrator was a wonderful gift above and beyond all expectations. Thank you!

AMAZING on every level!
Revisado: 04-07-21
Diney Costeloe keeps every thread of the story contiguous, clear and sometimes keeping you guessing, until she fills in the question in your mind. Her writing is plain and clear, believable and spell binding. Hands down with this book she has become my favorite author, even above Phyllis Whitney.
Anne Dover should be nominated for an academy award for her performance here. She embodies every persona, every emotion, every aspect of this work in a way the reader visualizes the scenes as though watching a motion picture. I love her work also.
Congratulations to both ladies for the very best of performance!

My favorite book and presentation to date!
Revisado: 08-10-20
The story needs to be told. The afterward should be read first though. The characters and voices delivering this drama, were beyond the very best! The nationality inflections, socioeconomic personalities revealed, the familial breakdowns... amazing.
You won’t be sorry listening to this book, which though a “novel” has truth in our history.
5 stars doesn’t even seem like enough. ♥️

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

I cannot finish reading this book!
Revisado: 05-25-19
6+ hours in and I cannot finish this book. I am required to select at least one star above for overall, performance, and story. In reality I give this book no stars, just to be clear.
I reflect on the high ratings of recommendation and shake my head. This is a disastrous representation of what Christ requires of us. (See Micah 6:8). God is here among us by way of the Holy Spirit and I do believe angels do watch over us. However, not to the extent that we create our own theology.
I find it paradoxical the title is “Educated”. The inhumane ignorance overflows to horrific gore in extreme, graphic, minute detail. I found myself taking breaks from the sheer terror of child abuse in the name of serving God.
