Historia
In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Essentially perfect
Revisado: 11-26-24
Outstanding performance. The long songs made me cringe a little, but that’s no fault of the narrator who went all in as well as could be asked. I don’t think anyone needs to be told the book itself is fantastic.

Historia
Two mighty empires are at war—and both will lose, with thousands of planets falling to the extinction event called the Scour. At least that's what the artificial intelligence known as Rupshe believes. But somewhere in the multiverse there exists a force—the Mother Mass—that could end the war in an instant, and Rupshe has assembled a team to find it. Essien Nkanika, a soldier trying desperately to atone for past sins; the cat-woman Moon, a conscienceless killer; the digitally recorded mind of physicist Hadiz Tambuwal; Paz, an idealistic child and the renegade robot spy Dulcimer Coronal.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Was ready to enjoy it. I tried to.
Revisado: 06-11-24
There were a lot of words. A lot of pseudo science sounding explanations. Scenes that kind of short circuited and went nowhere. Broad stroke heavy handed and depthless characters. The narrator tried to make it sound thrilling, but I found that in this case, it put the un-thrillingness in stark relief. If you like Michael Bay movies, maybe you’d enjoy it? There was a lot of hyperbolic bluster and in the end, I’m not really sure anything happened. I feel bad writing negative reviews. Especially because I loved some much of Crichtons work. I don’t have an issue with Patterson, tho I haven’t read much of his stuff. Anyway. Yeah. So. Yeah.

I still think about this entire series regularly. It completely transported me. I love sci if, but there is a lot of “eh ok good enough” writing. This series stands apart. Beautifully written characters with depth, and incredible world building. I’m writing this review over a year after reading it because I’m hoping the algo will start recommending things like it that I have not yet discovered.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Historia
Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and to pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport.

Can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a book this much. The post apocalyptic world, unlike most books in its genre, only serves as a backdrop for the beautifully written characters and the poetic, graceful rhythms of the prose.
I loved it.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Narrator won me over. Super fun moments.
Revisado: 06-17-21
So much solid science in here and interesting concepts and possibilities explored. It felt a little chubby around the midsection, but there was so much original fun in the novel at whole that I’d recommend this read to people who like a spattering of hard Sci fi delivered with a heap of casual cheek.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.
