Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

More King "from the 80's" than more recent books
Revisado: 06-21-18
I was a little skeptical when I started this book. I have enjoyed the last two more recent titles I have read from Stephen King, but I must admit that I miss his writing from the 1980's and 1970's. I was pleasantly surprised by this book as it "felt" a bit more like those old classics than some of his more recent books. One of the things I have been missing in his more recent titles is development of the "monster" in his stories, as well as unique and interesting supporting characters. He does both well in this book and although not at the level of The Stand or The Dead Zone or Pet Sem, he does it well enough for me. I really enjoyed the book, found all of the early development in the book necessary for the later outcome (which is not always the case with King in my opinion), with enough "gray" in the outcome of the story to be realistic, both in terms of the characters and the plot. Without spoiling it too much, one of the things I have always liked about King's fiction is his ability to either create a trope, or take an existing trope, and really run with it and stretch it. I'll just say that there is a very frequently occurring type of character in fiction of late that King includes, but develops her in such a way that she is an example of a recognizable trope, but is her own individual and interesting person. This is one of his greatest gifts I think. In conclusion, the beginning draws you in, the middle gets you thinking, and the ending keeps you on the edge of your seat. What more can one ask?

Historia
So here’s the plan: Kill the demon, steal the treasure, and retire to a life of luxury! It sounds easy when put like that. However, most unfortunately for warrior-priest Egil and sneak thief Nix, when the demon they kill turns out to have worshippers in high places, retirement is not an option. A wonderfully fast-paced fantasy adventure redolent of the classic tales of swords and sorcery, from New York Times best-selling author Paul S. Kemp.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely, if they are a fan of classic sword and sorcery fiction. The humor, dark sorcery, and bizarre situations the two heroes, Egil and Nix (close enough to a certain well-known duo from Lankhmar but different enough to be interesting!), find themselves in is a definite salute to classic pulp sword and sorcery fiction from yesteryear. However, these two are less "roguish" and more "heroic" than most classic sword and sorcery characters and there is a bit more of a contemporary presentation of the two main female characters who a) drive the plot in a way that is not dependent upon them being romantic interests for Egil and Nix, and b) are very intelligent and strong characters in their own right.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Egil. His devotion to his dead god and his heroic disposition made him very easy to cheer for.
What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His voices for both Egil and Nix really bring the characters to life.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Goo-gahs.
Any additional comments?
I liked the second book in the series almost as much as this one. It has more background development for both Egil and Nix and a very interesting villain as well. However, the adventure they are on in the second book I found a bit less involved.

Historia
Keep on the Borderlands was one of the very first D&D adventures, so seasoned gamers remember this product from their early days, and newer gamers will recognize it from the 25th anniversary rerelease. Greyhawk novels are based on the classic D&D modules from this world and provide listeners with the same kind of feeling that they get playing classic D&D modules.

The module is better than the book
Revisado: 09-13-14
What did you like best about Keep on the Borderlands? What did you like least?
I really wanted to like this book, but it was okay at best. The performance was fine, the story just takes entirely too long to get going. Those of you who are D&D players likely like me have fond memories of this module. Remember how the background and information about the environment around the keep was there but relatively short, and the information about the caves was extensive? This book is the opposite. I did not hate the book, it was an okay read, but I was disappointed and it is by far the weakest book of the six in this series.
Has Keep on the Borderlands turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
What about Bernard Setaro Clark’s performance did you like?
Character voices.
Was Keep on the Borderlands worth the listening time?
Yes, but just barely. I finished it and didn't quit listening, if that means anything.
Any additional comments?
Read the other books in this series, there are some real gems in there.

Hoopie!
Revisado: 09-12-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Of the three books featuring these characters, this one was my favorite. The relationships between the heroes start to really develop, and the story was a nice mix of history, character development, and adventure. I like all three of the books featuring these characters, though, and you cannot go wrong with any of them. Be sure to read them in order, though.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Descent Into the Depths of the Earth?
The climactic rescue scene in Lolth's temple!
Which character – as performed by Bernard Setaro Clark – was your favorite?
Hoopie! Has to be Escalla!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, not an extreme reaction, although he does a good job of making you care as much for some of the more minor characters, like Henry, as much as you do about the main characters.
Any additional comments?
Read all three if you can. The first is more of a tribute to a classic D&D module, this one introduces the main villain and fleshes out the background for Escalla. The last one is a nonstop high paced action adventure!
