Historia
There are few people Nero Wolfe respects, and Lon Cohen of the New York Gazette is one of them. So when Cohen asks for a favor, Wolfe is inclined to listen. According to Cohen, someone wants to kill the Gazette's gossip columnist, Cameron Clay. Death threats are a regular hazard for Clay, who's hurled insults and accusations at every bold-faced name in the five boroughs. But the latest threats have carried a more sinister tone. The columnist has narrowed his potential killers down to five people.

Had to buy on Kindle as the narration was so bad!
Revisado: 10-05-18
I love Nero Wolfe books and I really enjoy Robert Goldsborough's versions but GET ANOTHER NARRATOR. Archie sounds like a breathless wimp and Nero Wolfe is as bad. I didn't even get past the first chapter and had to shut it off and go buy the book, it was so grating. The last one I listened to had a great narrator - get him next time. No one in the Wolfe universe sounds like a woosy, soft spoken English butler. Seriously.

I always enjoy Joan Hess' Claire Malloy books but I really enjoyed this one, set in Egypt. Peter and Claire are married and the misadventures are doubled. A very good read with great characaters.

Revisado: 06-14-18
This is a very great book. I'm 2/3 through it and am enjoying it a lot. The narrator is pretty good, her voices are fine but she can't seem to pronounce her 't's . It's probably a regional thing and isn't annoying enough for me to stop listening.

Great book - terrible reader
Revisado: 09-12-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the hard copy of this book to anyone. Over the years I've read this book several times and was excited to see it on audible. It's a charming plot with likeable characters and exciting adventures.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes. The heroine goes from child to impoverished 20s and then suddenly is transported into what seems like a fairy tale to her.
How could the performance have been better?
By getting a different narrator. I almost stopped reading she was so bad. I could almost hear her running her finger under the words as she spoke in a halting, non-inflection tone. She did better when she was reading other characters but when she was being the heroine/narrator, she is back to the slow, halting, 3 words at a time speech again. It was painful to listen to and I found myself losing the story because I was thinking, "Come on! Get on with it!"
Did Aunt Dimity's Death inspire you to do anything?
Yes, actually, it reminded me how much I love this book and it inspired me to get my hard copy out and reread it.
Any additional comments?
No, I think my comment on the performance pretty much said it. The story itself is wonderful.

Fabulous new series!
Revisado: 06-30-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would and I have. It's a lot of fun. Engaging, great characters and all the necessary elements for a good mystery.
What other book might you compare Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case to and why?
Shanna Swendson's "Enchanted Inc" series. Same spirit and sense of fun along with the adventure.
What does Hollis McCarthy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Hollis McCarthy is perfect as the voice of Jayne Frost. Her inflections and interpretation is great.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I listened to it and then when I was finished listened to it again.

Instead of looking ahead to her new mobility, she's worried. "Routine surgery" recently cost a local actress and a star baseball pitcher their lives. Though Judith smells malice, she successfully survives her operation - but another patient isn't so lucky.

A great mystery - not a good reader
Revisado: 12-23-13
If you could sum up Suture Self in three words, what would they be?
Fun. Dangerous. Entertaining.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Suture Self?
When Judith and Rene realize what's going on at the hospital.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
A lot. I enjoyed the previous book I listened to of Mary Daheim, but it was a different narrator. This narrator's voices were not good. The main character's husband who supposedly lives in the Pacfic Northwest, sounded like George W. Bush. I won't buy one she reads again.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
As usual with the B&B series, it was entertaining, dangerous and fun.
Any additional comments?
I hope you put more of the B&B series on audible, but please use a different narrator. Everyone sounded like a man with a hoarse throat.

As always Gillian Roberts delivers a great mystery
Revisado: 04-25-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes I would. It's not my favorite of the series, but it's very good and kept me guessing.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, it kept changing and evolving into something entirely different.
Would you be willing to try another one of Christina Moore’s performances?
No. She's the reason I only gave this book a 3 star rating. She's not a good reader, especially compared to Susan Denaker who also reads the Amanda Pepper series.
Do you think Adam and Evil needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The series does build on itself and so the next book is the follow-up in a way.

Historia
While teaching summer school at exclusive Philly Prep, English teacher Amanda Pepper feels a sense of foreboding. First, a reading of Romeo and Juliet activates some very strange chemistry. Then the computer science teacher begins receiving anonymous go-back-to-Africa phone calls. A young Vietnamese boy dies in a drive-by shooting. And late one night, outside a Chinatown massage parlor, student April Tuong is kidnapped. Random violence? Perhaps.

This was a great mystery!
Revisado: 04-25-13
Would you consider the audio edition of In the Dead of Summer to be better than the print version?
I have read the print version but I do enjoy a good narrator reading to me.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, it kept me guessing. And the ending was very exciting, tense and ultimately satisfying.
What does Susan Denaker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her voices are great, especially for the two main characters, which isn't the case with the other person who reads Gillian Roberts' books.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Who is spreading the hate and violence and why are they after Amanda Pepper?
Any additional comments?
A very good listen. I so prefer Susan Denaker to the other person who does this series.

Towards Zero: What is the connection among a failed suicide attempt, a wrongful accusation of theft against a schoolgirl, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player? To the casual observer, apparently nothing. But when a house party gathers at Gull’s Point, the seaside home of an elderly widow, earlier events come to a dramatic head. Ordeal By Innocence: According to the courts, Jacko Argyle bludgeoned his mother to death with a poker. The sentence was life imprisonment.

Revisado: 02-04-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you don't mind it not being one of Agatha Christie's primary sleuths, then this is a good book. It features a secondary character, Superintendant Battle.
What other book might you compare 'Towards Zero' and 'Ordeal by Innocence' to and why?
Secret of Chimneys
Have you listened to any of Hugh Fraser’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have many of Hugh Fraser's readings and they are always wonderful.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, but I was always glad to come back to it.
Any additional comments?
A very satisfying mystery and I recommend the Battle series of books.
