Letitia holds nothing more dear than the papers that prove she is no longer a slave. They may not cause white folks to treat her like a human being, but at least they show she is free. She trusts in those words she cannot read - as she is beginning to trust in Davey Carson, an Irish immigrant cattleman who wants her to come west with him.

Historia
This is the dramatic story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. With the narrative power of fiction, this is a harrowing ride through the fire-filled skies over Berlin, Hanover, and Dresden. Fighting at twenty-five thousand feet in thin, freezing air no warriors had encountered before, bomber crews battled new kinds of assaults on body and mind. Air combat was deadly but intermittent: periods of inactivity and anxiety were followed by short bursts of fire and fear.

My Dad, TSgt Robert burns was a flex gunner/togglier in the 546 BS 384 BG at Grafton Underwood and completed 35 missions from June 1944 to Dec 1944. I have his flight journal and compared it with the info in this book. I learned so much more about the 8th Air Force and what they went through than I could have ever imagined.
I highly recommend this book and enjoyed the narrator.
