Pay close attention; the plot is rather complex
Revisado: 06-23-21
The performer did an excellent job of portraying different voices for each of the characters. Their voices were recognizable thanks to his consistency.

Historia
It was just a godforsaken mountainside, but no place on earth was richer in silver. For a bustling, enterprising America, this was the great bonanza. The dreamers, the restless, the builders, the vultures - they were lured by the glittering promise of instant riches and survived the brutal hardships of a mining camp to raise a legendary boom town. But some sought more than wealth. Val Trevallion, a loner haunted by a violent past. Grita Redaway, a radiantly beautiful actress driven by an unfulfilled need.

It was hard to stop listening to it
Revisado: 06-12-21
The voice narration was nothing less than perfect! The voice acting made the story come alive. the plot was superb even though I was able to figure it out sooner than L'Amour would have wanted me to.

Historia
For years, Milo Talon had been riding the outlaw trail, looking for a man who had betrayed his family. Only Hank Rossiter wasn’t the man he had been. Old now and blind, Rossiter was trying desperately to hold on to a small ranch to support his daughter, Barbara. Suddenly Talon found himself in the middle of a range war, siding with the man he’d marked for payback. But had Rossiter really changed? And could his daughter be trusted by either of them? For Milo, getting to the truth meant a long hard fight to separate his enemies from his friends - and forgiveness from revenge.

Engaging story, superbly acted
Revisado: 06-12-21
the voice actor did such a splendid job of portraying each of the different characters, it felt more like I was watching a movie than hearing a book.

Historia
While Blandings Castle sleeps in the summer sun, the Hon. Galahad Threepwood, brother of the Earl of Emsworth, is busily engaged in writing his Reminiscences, and they look set to be as warm as the weather, if not warmer. For Galahad has led a thoroughly misspent life, and his acquaintances can all too easily recall their past follies in his company. Reputations are at stake and even the nobility and gentry are beginning to panic.

Great Story but frustrating performance
Revisado: 05-18-19
I'm giving up on the story halfway through because the performance is so irritating. The narrator narration is unnatural and soporific. He makes a great try at voice acting but overdoes it to the point that it sounds totally contrived and sometimes difficult to understand. Lord Emsworth, after listening to previous books in the Blandings series, all of a sudden sounds like a woman - as do a couple of other men. It is not that John Wells is incapable of male voices, he does them well. But applying women's voices to men and overdoing the accents creates the uncanny valley that is so off-putting and leading me to return the book halfway in.

Fascinating story, narration was just OK.
Revisado: 07-18-18
Great story - kept me looking forward to going back to listening to it! It was an intriguing story that never bogged down in too much detail, the plot kept moving. It played on my emotions. The Narrator did a good job of performing the different characters, but his voice was not clear and resonate like I'm used to; I had to really listen to understand all the words and turn my treble way up and bass way down. While the emotions were quite well performed, I could not tell one character from another beyond distinguishing males from females because the voice was not very versatile. The author is a fantastic storyteller, but I prefer to listen to professional voice actors. If a professional voice actor did the performance, I'd have given the book 5 stars.
